New knights of Guinevere episode is so good!! I'm so glad it got greenlit omg Love Isaiah, love how much we & the characters have to learn about the criminal underworld & the shining false splendor of the overworld, the trafficking & trauma & personhood & identity themes, the horror, all of it!

Ivy reads: 'Salem's Lot by Stephen King A Stephen King classic I have not picked up yet! All I know is it's probably set in Maine and something about vampires? Time to find out! A lightly battered second hand copy, as I think Stephen King books are meant to be read

Yup, exactly as expected with Susan. Hopefully your new uhhhh condition gets resolved promptly?? I am surprised Mark made it out Part 2 done, 3 is next I am enjoying the vibes overall. A bit bummed that it's a very male centric, but I'm not feeling many "weird about ladies" vibes so that's nice

It's interesting to see the same tongue twister Bill uses in It to manage his stutter appear again in this book from another kid character. I've literally never heard the phrase anywhere but these two places. I wonder if it's just before my time or maybe it's a regional thing?

Oh goddammit Susan, that's a stupid thing to go do on your own. It's going to make things much harder on Ben & co. It's fun to see a vampire story play out that isn't romanticized. They're dead, gross, scary, & monstrous. I enjoy a romantic vamp, but let them be genuine horror sometimes too!

DoorDash wins the "actually delivered what I ordered" award! And I win korean food! Yay!!

Alright DoorDash, this is your chance to beat ubereats as my go-to food delivery service Can you successfully deliver me one correct entree & the two sides that go with it, or am I doomed to be without korean food Ubereats fucked it up twice last weekend, so now it's your turn. Godspeed 🫡

Side thought - & it's not King's style so I don't think so - but wouldn't it be something if it turned out that Ben Mears wasn't a protagonist? We as viewers don't really know where he's been so far when things have gone down. At this point it's technically possible for him to be part of the Big Bad

Fifth - how gottdang loud is that vamp slurping that it can be heard down the hall in another bedroom??? I'm fully imagining a noise like a kid going after the last of their soda with a straw & being deliberately loud to annoy their mom SLOOOORRRRPPPPPPP🥤🥤🥤 Part 2 now!

Boy this vampire business is going to shit in a hurry now that we're in part two, how tf are we gonna carry this another 300 pages?? I'm thinking we're gonna get a bunch more time with Hubie Marsten, that little teaser just now was so intriguing, wtf was going on with him???

Fourth - I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop with Floyd. You can't step in on an existing relationship with an eligible young lady like that and have no consequences, especially in a small town. There's no way this doesn't explode soon & we haven't seen much of Floyd so idk how that will go

Alrighty, hit the end of part 1 First - wtf are the McDougall's agreeing to do & why do I know it's gonna be awful? (It's because they're awful) Second - Mark seems like a good, if odd, kid & interesting character. I expect to see a lot more of him in part 2 Third - I'm enjoying seeing our >>

<< Scooby Gang for this horrible trial begin to assemble. Washed up aging English teacher, bright young lady, new but not new author revisiting his childhood, surprisingly sensible if blunt kiddo. Looks like we may lose English teacher if he keeps bringing home house guests, though. Bad idea.

The next time I have to lay my eyeballs on an f slur I may just grab a sharpie and start blacking them out as I go goddamn King we get it casual homophobia of the 70's and a lot of these people suck ass so of course they think and use that word but I still don't need to see it so damn often gross

I'm so curious to see how this continues with Straker & his unseen partner who may just be in the cellar box, not New York It's been interesting to start to see the pulls from classic Stoker Dracula as the story develops Also curious to learn about awful ol' Hubie & how past connects to present

Boy we just cycled through a big cast over the course of one day, hour by hour. A lot to take in & a lot of names to hold in my head. I assume they'll connect better as the story carries on but for now I'm barely keeping them straight Those poor kids & that poor dog. I wonder where the other kid is

Hmmmm a mysterious illness after a terrible trauma? I wonder if it's trauma or if kiddo is getting Lucy'ed & that's why he's ill? Oof magoof, I know it's some of the vocabulary of the era & it's usually used in an unflattering way on characters who are bad people but WOW it's 😬 to see in writing

King writes small towns with such a specific blend of nostalgia, fondness, & unflattering rot. Literal or figurative. The fondness he has for small town Maine, especially of yesteryear, shows through. But also nasty secrets, openly shitty behaviour, & a certain kind of decay under weathered paint

Speaking of - the book was contemporary when it came out in 1975. In classic King style the story puts one foot about 20 years back while the other foot is planted in the current day If this were equally modern & historic now, that would be '26 & '05 ish. Makes me wonder what it would be like today

Huge change in writing style & pacing from the last book I read to this one, but I'm finding King's flow again That newspaper article makes 'Salem's Lot sound like somewhere I would love to drive through & do some cool fursuit photos in on a spooky road trip. Knowing King I would die horribly lol

Oooo the Marsten House is shaping up to be a killer set piece as we begin chipping away at the lore & that little light in the window. Also starting to meet a King classic - very normal & flawed people who may turn out to be quietly, privately, monstrous. This dairy farm kid is making me side-eye
