the modern media tie-in pinball is so weird and sloppy (why do pinball for toy story 4 *specifically*?) but the older “noun” pinball tables were equally baffling — here’s a pin about haunted house. here’s one about magic shows. here’s one about earthquakes

feels like a golden era for pinball tbh. the new pokemon and sonic tables are great. i played a new dune (!) table and an avatar table today that were both great. just tons of fun stuff coming out

i might have guessed that the airport would be the worst environment imaginable for autonomous vehicles (a bajillion people moving quickly and chaotically) but actually those people are very used to dodging other people already, so as long as the chairs move at human speed it works out fine…?

i love when scientists forget their field isn’t universal and start saying stuff like “certainly nobody’s put a clock in a helicopter before”

fantasy is when you can replace “space” with “sea” and “space ship” with “boat” and it still makes sense. sci fi is when the story includes equations and diagrams and has citations at the back

was talking to my 8yo about what’s sci fi and what’s fantasy articulate the difference between technology and magic in one post. go

our righteous accommodating healthful amphetamine medications for productive office workers versus their maladaptive abusable amphetamine drugs for worthless addicts

literal crystal meth is fda approved for adhd treatment btw just in case anyone was feeling too precious about how Actually Adderall Is Totally Different

apparently this is because “pamphlet” historically meant “a single folio”

lenin’s “what is to be done?” is described as a “pamphlet” but it can easily run 140 pages (i saw one edition at 240 pages — is the introduction 100 pages? is there commentary not alluded to by the title?) and i feel like this sets some misleading expectations

the reality is so baffling (grindr thinks when you're leaving a dm you've likely just had a *good* experience) that i choose to believe they're showing you Brand Content as a sort of palette cleanser. didn't like that cock? here's a little something called Meta Muse to help you reset

code review is such a weird phenomenon. it’s only quite recently that we’ve started expecting all code to be reviewed outside of regulated environments, nobody can agree on the purpose of code review (accountability, knowledge sharing, catching bugs?), there’s no clear standard for rigor…

i saw a quote to the effect of “it’s not fair that someone can produce ai slop with almost no effort and expect me to spend my afternoon reviewing it” but … *do* they expect that? if you asked them i would guess that they expect you to spend a few minutes at most checking if it looks totally insane

and more broadly: who at your job told you what the purpose of code review is at your workplace and how thoroughly you’re expected to review code? i bet that nobody told you!

huge ups to chicago for having a train that goes from the airport to downtown which is faster than the equivalent uber! seattle also has a train from the airport to downtown but it is quite significantly slower!

me if i was in elementary school in 2025: mommmm this looks like a fischer price pelican case!!! it’s for BABIES!!!! you can’t expect girls to take me seriously like this !!!

porter robinson should've released a worlds live album tbh and it's so sad he never did. hearing the flicker live flip 12 years ago fried my brain permanently and i've never been able to hear it again
