the general bsky userbase being a lil dismissive of the standard.site integration is a reminder that this whole atproto atmosphere ecosystem is a long game. not everyone will be on board, and that's ok! we'll be ready to welcome people into a decentralized social future as big social fades away :)

it feels like these things only ever cater to techbro types, and they’re the only ones getting excited about them if only techbros care about something, that’s a red flag to the average user. people who are too deep in techbro circles do not know what normal people are like, or what they want

ime atproto developers are the least tech bro coded people i’ve met in the space, all of them socially aware about the impacts of social media and are enthusiastic for bringing back an era of the internet where users are interconnected eg geocities/rss instead of siloed in platforms ljke today

there is a messaging problem, but i think people would want to own their own data, where users have control as to what platforms they allow, and people can be connected without platforms, no matter where they are online, all with one account, and i want that digital future for everyone

“i think people would want to own their own data” false equivalence that hurts ppl’s trust in atproto yes ppl like to be able to avoid choosing platforms they don’t like, but “owning your data” is vague/buzzwordy & ppl don’t care. it’s like email providers—everyone will just flock to 3 central ones

theres a huge trust problem w/ tech. avg users dont trust tech bc it has repeatedly broken that trust & worked against ppl’s interests ATP has to work w genuine intent to earn it, bc we’re too burnt on things like google (ex-dont-be-evil)’s heel turn. buzzwords & hyping stuff up is how you lose ppl

when a million little apps pop up—all w/ frankly embarrassing names/branding that feel like less than a minute went into thinking how ppl would realistically USE them—that hurts trust too. even if ppl know what atproto even IS, they cant tell the difference btwn which apps are genuine, or for no one
