It feels like no one should have to say this, and yet we are in a situation where it needs to be said, very loudly and clearly, before it’s too late to do anything about it: The United States is not a startup. If you run it like one, it will break. 🔗 www.wired.com/story/the-us...

Too many people think the U.S. is a speed boat. The United States is a giant, slow moving cruise ship. It was built this way on purpose. If you turn too hard, right or left, it will capsize. Trump and Musk have it turned hard right and at full speed, looking for a place to run it aground.

Proper functioning checks and balances and true leadership in the ruling party were to prevent these things. But we have a party of Christian cruelty and rage and they demand their ten pounds of flesh they were promised.

There will be a terrorist attack at some point especially with the FBI firings and resignations that are occurring. They want to break everything then implement martial law/emergency powers.

It's almost as is they are too lazy or too stupid or too arrogant to work through expenditure item by item. Instead they think by creating a spreadsheet of all expenditure, they can then apply AI to find excess and delete it. All you need is AI and all your problems are solved.

Correct. The US is a broken down jalopy. To fix it requires major rework. It got this way from many, many years of neglect and poor leadership, aka "the swamp". You don't recognize this situation because your head up your a$$.

It feels demoralizing to watch the world you live in dismantled brick by brick and knowing there's such a power imbalance that nothing can be done. It makes you wonder why anybody chooses to participate in daily life if this is what they have to look forward to.

Exactly this! Startups obsess maniacally over singular goals. This is Elon’s style in particular. The singular goal here is cutting costs, regardless of consequence. I elaborated a bit on how I see this through the lens of startup management in a thread here.

A few people offline have asked me “what does Elon want with the payment system?” Knowing a bit about corporate strategy and Elon’s approach in particular, here’s what I think he’s up to: 🧵 (1/6)

If having people who don't have experience running a government take over makes sense, then having people in government with no experience running startups would be equally qualified to take over Tesla, SpaceX, Boring Co, etc.

How many times do we have to suffer the "Run [x] like a startup" garbage? Speaking as someone who has worked almost entirely for 35 years in startups, you really don't want this. Really. Run your family like a startup! Run government like a startup! Run your school like a startup! 🤣

But that's the far-right accelerationists Tech bro's & trump's goal. create a depression to make a population of serfs for tech & other corporate oligarchs to hire cheaply so they get even richer & can buy up businesses & land for pennies on the dollar

Broke a long time ago. Randy Cunningham Followed by Duncan Hunter Then Issa. Who could not pass a FBI background check for an ambassador. So ran for Congress is San Diego’s Santee (Klantee) area. Gov Goodhair gave Elon so many tax breaks as his flame-mobiles rolled on our roads. @aoc.bsky.social

A nation isn’t a pivot, governance isn’t disruption, and “move fast, break things” is a reckless ethos when what breaks is the social contract. The state is boring infrastructure, history, obligation. If we treat it like a startup, don’t be surprised when it crashes like one. #governance

r/conservatives is already “reporting” any resistance to Bondi and DOJ. People need to know more about what this means in reality. We have to OUT their “reporting.”

I was fired by west Virginia's "World Famous Narcissistic Opera Star" Randall Reid-Smith, 13 years ago. My job title "Curator of West Virginia's Archaeological Collections". He also fired Fred Armstrong long-time State Archivist. Reason for firing me "Insubordination."

I really think that is the intent. Those in power now do not want it to swing back to the left. They want to break American democracy, so they can replace it with a system that guarantees they hold on to that power.

At this point...it needs to break, and it needs to hurt. The people supporting the current administration and who voted them in only will understand suffering. #letThemEatCake

A government too weak to defend itself from insurrectionists and chuds is one that didn't want to survive anyway. The people are ultimately powerless to defend a system that will not defend itself. We gave it the power to do so and it refused.

But that’s exactly the point. They. Want. It. To. Break. If it does, that means they can reset it. Rewrite the rules. Making us all reliant upon them. They are breaking it intentionally.

Thank you. Amazing work. You are in the tiny minority of ethical journalists who are actually reporting the unfolding tragedy. Please don’t stop.

qq Wired! How many 100's of people a day are dyeing because Elon shut down of USAID? I have not found anyone yet that can answer it. I tried my congressman but I am pretty he just sold my contact info to spam-bots.

"Elon registered 2 new corporations before the election. United States of America, Inc & America LLC. I have no idea what he was up to but would guess it has something to do with the crypto or with his takeover of treasury dept systems. " #Voices4Victory #DemVoice1 #USDemocracy #ProudBlue

And the government should not be run like a business. Businesses exist to make a profit for executives and shareholders. Government exists to provide for the common good, to regulate business, to stop excessive monopolies, to protect the “commons” from runaway capitalism. Nothing like a business.

Not a buyout. Offering people their own salary is not a buyout. Even if that offer had financial backing and was real, it would still not be a buyout. It would be a voluntary resignation with no additional money attached to it.
