NEW: Bluesky has seen massive growth in the weeks following the US election. There are 24 million users on the social media platform. With great engagement comes great responsibility, which means Bluesky CEO @jay.bsky.team has a lot to do. She sat down with WIRED to talk about it.

When they start adding subscriptions, that might get rid of the bots. They are going to roll out a premium subscription and then, I’m sure, they will strip away a lot of features for people who want to use the free service

. This platform may be a 'trojan horse'. Wanky things are happening, like disappearing 'followers' lists and a silent admin when this 'problem' is reported. Be careful folks, this platform may not be all it seems. In fact, there may be danger close on this website. Be advised.

Him along with Rupert Murdoch. The 2 biggest cancers on American society whilst growing their personal wealth on the backs of those dumbfooking imbeciles who never made it past High School. Just check their bio's. They all end with went to that HS and that's it.

You prevent this best by supporting the platform yourself when things like a monthly subscription arrive. It's very specifically that which keeps the advertisers, special interests, and billionaires away. And it works. I am speaking from direct experience. Support the platform :)

Use the block button. That is it's purpose. It lets you define what you will/won't tolerate in your own feed, and you don't have to worry about what other people are doing. If the intent is calling attention to those things, keep posting about them. Otherwise, block them & give zero attention.

Correct. X recently made some incredibly stupid changes with respect to blocking. They have the feature, but might as well not. We don't look to X for thought leadership. They are the example of what should be anti-goals. They are the best example of what *not* to do in social media.

Getting follows from lots of porn accounts already. Anxiously awaiting the remove follower feature. An idea: How about requiring new users to make 5 unique posts or replies (not reposts) before they’re able to follow anyone?

This basically tells us that Elon Musk has never respected Twitter numbers. It also shows that he has no understanding or respect as to why the Twiittersphere evolved into a powerhouse in the first place. Bluesky isn't perfect, but it offers hope for serious thinkers and contributors. X WILL NOT.

Dear Juliana: Nobody cares what a useless, irrelevant, dim-witted little dingleberry twerp like you thinks. Welcome to an existence of irrelevance.

I don't see Threats really as a competition. It's easy to sign up and easy to forget. You are automatically connected to people who follow you on Instagram, what means that all the OF girls who suddenly fell in love with you try to bother you there as well.

Thing is, MSM (owned by billionaires largely) is losing credibility. Like Twitter, I think MSM is facing a problem that people are realizing how much of it is bullshit and being used to manipulate the public, rather than inform. Let them say what they want, if no one listens, they lose.

I think they really need to emphasize hosting your own PDS, especially because websites can simply run them from their own domains giving accounts inherent credibility bypassing the need for "blue checkmarks." Even if you don't trust the publisher, you know where the information is coming from.

One point this article missed is *the day after* the election many Twitter users lost 100s if not 1000s of followers- which clearly indicated something is just not right about that platform. This accelerated the exodus.

If the algorithms are skewed in favor of subscribers then the whole Bluesky site becomes nothing but an X clone doomed to the same failure. Since when do we find morals, ethics and equity when big money enters the game?

fate.isfate.is

the whole point is that's not really possible on Bluesky. The system allows for custom algorithms so if the basic one (Discover) becomes bad, it will just fell out of use to be replaced by another one. The reason Bluesky exists is to prevent what happened to Twitter and Threads.

Agree 💯 I dread January 20. My husband believes there was cheating in the election. How can there be so many dumb people who don’t get that he is a mean, narcissist sociopath and selfish money & power mongerer

I just refuse to stoop to that level. If we really believe that, doesn’t it mean we are as bad as “they” are? I’m just so sad - maybe even sadder than I was when Hillary didn’t win. He did cheat that time - he knows nothing else.

We tried but it was hard with Leon, Russia, mainstream news and right side influencers brain washing the weak how did we have a chance. Dems not voting or voting for Jill Stein hurt us also. We have to learn to fight dirty

I keep both, x and threads, but don’t engage anymore. It was lonely here at first, no one to interact. But it fortunately “exploded” in no time. Nice to rub elbows with you all. We all need this to survive what is coming.

We need to know what is true and real for example a service dog's airport potty mislabeled to prove another lie is simply not okay. It's a massive job but extremely important to moderate misinformation. Good Luck.

Nope. Stop reading headlines like a MAGA cuck and educate yourself, you behave no better than they do believing what they are spoon fed.

I'm amazed at how smoothly it has gone. You'd expect growth this explosive to be accompanied by service outages, delays in enforcing the rules, etc. Kudos to everyone at BlueSky for their incredible work.

Thank you,Jay.i think as long as you keep users first, don't throttle sites, and take reports of bad actors seriously BS will remain the civil breath of fresh air it currently is.Thanks again!

Definitely curious to see what the potential and potential pitfalls are for this platform. It's a nice place right now. What can be done to keep it that way?

Media outlets will keep soft-palming X and Truth Social for access and to prevent throttling while they shit on Bluesky to seem "unbiased" because they play fair. Don't believe me? This is how Wired rolled this content out on X. Notice the combative and accusatory stance:

Threads overnight became a place where you'll get brigaded by Trump worshipping provocateurs on pretty much anything you post. They'll have maybe 3 followers and a profile that says they're proud to trigger libs or whatever. Really quickly went from a good service to intolerable.

There are a lot of places you can look at for suggestions to increase engagement and improve usage, but the best one is just to comment to other people who are discussing things you find interesting (not by disagreeing or dunking). I also suggest Debbie Ridpath Ohi's "how to use Bluesky" posts.
