Not enjoying the precedent of "officially licensed avatars" being set here. Count down the days until Nintendo or Disney start having accounts banned who uploaded avatars that violate their copyright.

Tbh, I feared that years ago, which is why none of my copyrighted models are named the actual character. I.e. Kass from Zelda would be called something like "Blue Bard Parrot". And I always make sure the thumbnails dont show the full character

Yall are trying to bridge that gap of avatar hunting, I get that, but this is strictly against what most of the avatar creators have for their ToS, to not resell the asset(s) for personal gain without proper licensing. Good on you, but the execution is not what people imagined.

I agree with this, but you still have to abide by the creators of the bases/assets ToS. So Vrc needs to have constant contact and needs to change what those creators can advertise to benefit themselves directly. Vrc doing this is cutting those funds and hard work from creators that truly made them.

Imagine if you have in description of your socials as a creator and they force you to remove your listing bc of it. That's basically what is sayin. Sounds a LOT like what flickr did & other spaces who "charge" u or ban u from "promoting" as if thats not 75% of an artist's job these days 🙄

You NEED to promo your stuff so ppl can contact you for troubleshooting, feedback, supp, & find more of your work, give community response, grow your userbase, grow your reviews, expertise. Plus ppl who do comissions or texture re-edits NEED to have that info there???

This is hostile as heck to your content creators. You basically are doing exactly what Apple did and lost in court, while also restricting users the ability to get source files for content they paid for. People who put in the hard work deserve better.

The market announcement has me hyped as a creator. I assume this is for the majority of VRC that doesn't even have PC access. People can basically buy a base version from the vrc market and if they really enjoy it and have a pc. they can go to the creators site and buy the full version with files.

The way it's worded also makes it sound like it would be really difficult to let people know before they buy something that they can also get the source files somewhere else for free or at a discount once they purchase.

I'd be okay if they were allowed to say, "Hey, here is the price for VRChat's market with a major price drop since it's licensed to only work on this platform. If you want the source files, they're more expensive, but here they are." Creators should be allowed to advertise themselves.

Yup, nor are you allowed to advertise it. In Second Life's marketplace, you sometimes can't get the model files, but you can often get the PSDs and their related links on popular items. This is completely allowed there, so it's a bit strange VRChat would put up a barrier to even basic offerings.

The majority of SecondLife products are no mod, with no access to any files. There is a small handful of mod stores. My store is one of them but its mostly furry stores that are allowing modding with devkits. I still believe people are judging this to fast. I hoping it will bring in new creators.

Okay, I went through FAQ. Apparently you can share files outside at your own risk, but it's not supported or intended use. Sooo, it's essentially making free/public avatars thing of the past. They fumbled it, badly.

I feel like I'm doing damage control here... but I'm very optimistic about this considering part of the reason I quit VRC many years ago was because SecondLifes market pays my bills. If people don't like the way things are going after release, I'm confident it will be addressed.

I think this is a fantastic way for Quest-only users and those intimidated by Unity to enjoy content in the game while the original creator is rewarded for it. I hope this is successful in that regard.

But, as someone with 113 DRM-free purchases on Booth alone (and counting). I’m not looking forward to a potential culture shift over time in which most of the content is DRM-locked and only a few select avatars are able to be downloaded and customized.

Also I find it funny that y'all are complaining about source files when they are literally taking nearly half of the purchase for themselves in addition to the $10 a month just to be able to slap some stickers around

Not getting the source files makes me completely uninterested as a buyer, since I (and a good portion of the furry community) make custom edits to fit our fursonas better. As a seller I'm interested if people are able to provide proof of purchase so I can give away source files if they ask for them

What if someone buys my avatar on VRC marketplace and then realizes they can get the source files on a different storefront, but now they have to rebuy the entire avatar again? I'd like to take steps to avoid that, I don't want my customers to get screwed over.

Just add that to the description? I feel like the customer also have the general mental capacity to know “Oh I want to make edits, but VRC Marketplace doesn’t provide me the files. I should buy this from their other storefront.” If you’re smart enough to edit avis, you’re smart enough to read a desc

As a creator the only alternative I see is making the vrchat one cheaper since it doesn't technically get you everything. I don't like that really since, again, people don't get the files and are relying that vrchat will still provide a service in the years to come.

For minority of people who can use these files, the market would a great way to test an avatar inworld before going directly to the creators site to buy the full version. Most of vrc cant even use the files anyway. So the market is perfect for them and at the same time more money goes to the artists

you should edit that image slightly if your going advertise this sort of thing.. the mouse model used is actually from a game! Look up Moss on steam thats where the mouse came from.. just want to let ya know so folks don't get the idea to put game models into the marketplace..

bsky.app/profile/poly... The game studio themselves uploaded their own character to the VRChat marketplace, so there is no foul play here.

🚨Quill is coming to @vrchat.com!!🚨 You can now run, dance, wave, jump, and even use modified ASL gestures AS your favorite heroine! 👋💃🐭 Quill launches soon in the VRChat Avatar Marketplace! #VRChat #VRChatCommunity #Moss #Quill #Avatar #Mouse

After like 5 years of just maintaining and small fixes. Like Gumroad has existed for 7 years, and mods existed until they “patched it” then they added stuff to VRC+ that could’ve been moded in. Like Drone cameras and Stickers.

Not all of us want to be trying to run a ton of unverified code patches that destabilise the game client in unpredictable ways and expect vrchat to maintain stuff. I want features baked in, not hacked in after market.

This isn't a permissions issue. This is VRChat not Second Life. The way content is delivered has never been secure as you can rip even without having a client. The bigger problem is when it comes to VRChat's moderation which doesn't always address ripped content in a timely fashion.

to repeat something i already said about facebook horizons avatars, 'infinite potential of custom animal bodies aside, it's the difference between being able to upload any shirt design you want and only having a few options to spend jewels on in the store' what if I just want to rescale 8 bones?

you're still allowed to upload the source files elsewhere, but you can't tell people on the vrchat marketplace where those source files are :/

Solutions to this that the community has suggested: - Allow source files to be optimally included in the vrchat marketplace - Allow us to link to other marketplaces where the source files can be found, along with an api to verify vrchat purchases for easy transfer

The first option would step on the toes of other marketplaces, but the second option is complicated. It kind of sucks either way. At its core, this new marketplace is exploitive of people who don't know unity

just wanted to add this to prevent any confusion: this probably only applies to the marketplace listing. of course you can still upload your avatar anywhere else. you just can't tell people about those places in the vrchat marketplace, it seems

Even so, that's the same kinda thing Apple just got smacked down for. It's a really crap move. VRC will probably be in the clear technically because they're not locking other marketplaces out of existing, but...it's still very much a dick move.
