we fucked up bigtime when the internet slipped from the utopian promise of being able to connect with ANYone into the hellscape of being connected to EVERYone

this isnt an eternal september thing. it's more like the primary means by which most people experience 'online' now is centralized social media platforms which can expose anyone to the entire world at any time (even if you aren't on them, thanks to ubiquitous cameras)
