We've released v0.0.250 for DELTARUNE Chapter 5 on Steam & PlayStation. This fixes a number of minor issues and bugs across the game. We'll do one more patch after this!

Susie's BetterHeal was changed to just "Heal" both in and out of battle, unfortunately for me there's no other differences apart from the magic increase being consistent, I really wish we could train up Susie's healing more as Ralsei just outclasses her with ReviveSong

Tbh bombs doesn't need a nerf, it just needs better visuals. Maybe it's just me but I genuinely didn't even notice that where the bombs land is actually telegraphed. Same issue I had with sword tunnel, the difficulty was fine, just the visuals of it was poor.

I was assuming that's the nerf Toby's talking about, making the visuals more clear and thus easier. idk what Toby actually means by "nerf" though, ig it's up to interpretation until the next patch comes out and we find out

For me the best way I found to deal with the bomberman attack was to slow down chill out. Though I suggest maybe changing the color of the flashing circle indicators to something other than dark red and yellow? they blend in with the purple grid, it's hard to see or notice in the chaos sometimes

I played melee and you live or die if you can or can not react to things in under 250ms. I also found out i died a lot more when I was moving unnecessarily, really easy to walk into a bomb on the ground or their lingering shockwaves. this isn’t a good excuse & I do agree that it’s stupid fast though

I personally didn't find that attack much of an issue, and my reaction time is over 100 ms slower than the average person (according to reaction time tests, so the average person's reaction time might be a bit slower), so I don't think a fast reaction speed is strictly necessary for that attack.

When I bought it, I was healthy and reading in English wasn't a problem. Now, with glaucoma, being able to tolerate the colors while reading in English has become a big problem. Esperaré a que esté en español, para no tener que forzar la vista ni lastimarme los ojos.

Appareantly it's fixed in Chapter 5 but they never applied the fix to Chapter 4 LOL bsky.app/profile/ners...

y'all remember that one bug where you couldn't get blackshard from castle town if you had the blueribbon? well, they fixed that in chapter 5 (and they also accounted for justiceaxe vs powerband). um. but it's not fixed in chapter 4. the bug is still in chapter 4. thanks guys

the consequences of convincing john game maker to implement a mechanic that would allow you to have every chapter be a separate game with separate copies of the codebase and every asset

Toby if you guys are going back to fix the older chapters there's a typo in ch1 for lancers dialogue at the end of the game (for when you interact with him on the throne twice iirc) and this has bothered me for years, if you can fix it my soul is yours...

didn’t realize what it meant by “sideways” at first and i thought there was somehow a way to enter the cutscene like this

I know its optional, but getting the ability to nerf bombs after only 1 loss is kinda crazy, especially when the final boss takes 6 losses. Idk i feel players should at least Get a Chance (haha) to learn the attack first (it is learnable!)

also, so many people say the bomb attack gives no time to react, but then ask for indicator lines?? like ur nerf suggestion was right there: ask for more time before they explode!!! idk, I think indicators would kinda ruin the "search for safe spots" part of the attack no? kinda a big part imo

feel like it wouldn't be as interesting without it maybe these are not the same people and im goomba fallacying but i feel like i almost only ever see indicator lines as a nerf suggestion

TBF you don't really have to track the bombs, you just need to track the soul (since you only need to worry about the line vertically and horizontally from the soul) Evenstill that fight still throws a LOT of bombs at you 😅

One of my happiest moments in life is when I was demoing an old puzzle game I designed at PAX, and some random kid got stuck on a level, turned to me, and said "I hate you" with a smile on his face The suffering of children is the true purpose of game dev 😌

Game difficulty has very little to do with accessibility There are blind & paralyzed people who have beaten games much harder than Deltarune Plus this boss is already optional. Having painfully evil secret bosses is fun. If this were a main story boss, then yea I'd see the argument for an easy mode

oh! I'm sorry. i forgot that disability is a linear scale that goes from 0-100 and every disability makes everything the same amount of more difficult. how could i have forgotten that?! I'm just a disabled person who beat snowgrave spamton but had to use cheat engine on the lake scene. whoopsie! <3

I'm good at video games and played bomberman as a kid but could not parse the bomb part at all. It's overwhelming for many people, skills or no skills

@tobyfox.undertale.com Salutations, Mr.Fox. I hope this post finds you well. I would like to make a small request regarding Deltarune Chapter 5. It would bring me great joy if you could find a way to make it where the castletown climb Starwalker sequence doesn't replace the princess Ralsei sequence.

Question for the jackenstein fix, does this retroactively fix jackenstein being missing in existing saves, or just only preventing from happening to new files? Personally I didn’t slay the titan spawns but I knew that some people did have that issue

toby and co, im begging you, let me still have the cutscene where ralsei expresses joy at the idea of being a princess and i get to validate her for it even on a starwalker save file this is my #1 problem with the game and if it's never fixed, i will simply never recruit starwalker again.

Referring to an "option" to nerf the bomb attack, as opposed to just "the bomb attack will be nerfed" or having it be adaptive like Flowery, is interesting — I wonder if we're gonna be asked after respawning "Hey, was I going too hard on you" then have to pick yes or no, that would be funny.

hey, would it be possible for you guys to add the optional nerf mechanic to the main final boss of the chapter as well, I think that's a way better option than currently where it forcibly nerfs the boss without saying anything, while still letting players who struggle proceed with the story

It sounds like everyone was having problems with the bombs during the Shadow Crystal boss fight, while I meanwhile was having issues with the tube and sometimes the horizontal line attacks. That's kinda interesting to hear!

One thing I'm not a fan of is how nearly every "balance change" is a hasty pity mechanic. Fight balance patches should tweak the attacks themselves (patterns, hitboxes, etc.) instead of nerfing damage values per loss, which doesn't fix anything for a lot of people. Still, thanks for your work!

I personally just find this way of patching fights unfortunate, it does the job of moving a player along well enough but you're still forced to play the first time on a rough version of the fight before being able to get the patch changes... I just don't like this balancing philosophy I guess?

It's definetly not the biggest deal in the world and I don't even mind the bomb attack the way it is, but I do wish whenever there's a rough spot with battle they'd apply a universal fix that actually polishes it rather than burying it under pity mechanics, that's all 😅

That's kind of what I'm thinking it is too, just easy to do variable changes, which is usually what these are lol Though tbf I don't think the bombs need any crazy changes, at most either something to help with reading the less intuitive bomb patterns, or just removing contact damage on the bombs,

tbh it wouldn't even take much to fix it i'd love it if even something as small as just adding an option in the settings that's "nerf bosses after successive losses", which defaults to on but you can turn off, was done

I'm hoping once Chapter 7 is out and the dev team no longer has their hands tied they'll go back and take a second look at various wacky stuff like this, but since the gameplay in Deltarune is mostly used as a vehicle for telling a story it's hard to say if it's important enough to do so 😅

it kinda is still in, certain attacks target all 3 party members at once like in ch1. the only real change was the target is randomized per hit, as opposed to per attack. I imagine if it was kept in, party members would be demolished instantly... lol
