Probably because the front-end coder had to apply the data-validation rules that the guy who wrote the database imposed. Also because the database coder failed to think that names can come from any other culture but their own, so presumably they were a junior programmer or an AI.

I mean, names like "Al" (like short for Albert) exist even in the American culture, right?
