I don't get why fully grown adults act like they didn't have the ability to do literally anything just 3 or 4 years ago before the proliferation of AI...
I think you guys are missing that making as little contact with the systems as possible is not just not going to the damned programs, is avoiding all the places in which it's been forced. Even googling something hits you with AI now.
It’s been observed cis men generally use it more because it’s mimicking the unpaid labor women traditionally would be expected to do for them. Normal stuff all adults should do but there’s still “that guy” who wants a wife / mom / personal asst to tell them what they want to hear. It’s like a drug.
I swear! A higher up contacted us at IT to complain she had reached her AI usage limit and couldn’t edit her PowerPoint slides. Like… How the heck did you do this before? JUST DO THAT!!!
The slides were full of spelling and layout mistakes, by the way…
everyone in the replies going "unless you count this" we do. find a way to avoid it, it's not that hard, companies throwing AI at you doesn't mean you just have to close your eyes and not read the AI bit of the page
It's so not-hard that even when my employer forced us to 'upgrade' our laptops to Windows 11 devices, complete with integrated Copilot buttons and shit, I continued to not use Copilot or any other AI shite.
It is really, *really* not hard.
I hate my laptop. Not because it will lag when I use Google chrome while im trying to write sometimes, and the fact that it is a 2024 laptop that I've owned for a handful of months. No, I hate it because there is the CoPilot button. It exists. Ive accidentally hit it. Everytime I wanna break it.
Wanna destroy the button? There’s a program called Windows Powertoys, download that and it comes with a bunch of features (turn off most, tbh), but the most important one is Keyboard Remapper.
You can make the copilot key literally anything else or just disable it entirely. And it works everywhere.
Here’s the direct link to downloading the latest version from GitHub. The tool’s by Microsoft. You’d just use the x64 version, most likely.

I tried it out a few times when it first came out and decided that it was a neat party trick but not particularly useful for my day-to-day and have not used it since
yeah imagine actually reading a news article all the way through without having it pre-digested, or creating a piece of art, or writing and recording a song, or just having an opinion and expressing it yourself.
It's as if some people don't want to acknowledge what life was like even 5 years ago
The only time I use it is at work, because my work literally forces me to, and even then I use it as little as possible. Nearly threw up when they excitedly announced "we all have Copilot now!" Like that was something to be thankful for.
I only ever used it by accident because of the way it pops up in your face everywhere, overlapping the text box you were about to type in! Trying to turn it off and avoiding it is a full time job! So annoying!
I mean, it keeps getting added into things that in no way need or want it. Like phones wanting to AI upscale photos, or google search shoving AI at the top.
