Today, @doctorswithoutborders.org staff in South Sudan issued a press release about a place called Nyatim, where tens of thousands of people have fled fighting between government and opposition forces. It is nothing short of a humanitarian disaster. www.doctorswithoutborders.org/latest/human...
At least 58 people have died in Nyatim over the past four weeks, according to local @doctorswithoutborders.org staff, who are themselves among the displaced people fleeing violence.
The authorities - the government - are blocking @doctorswithoutborders.org and other aid organizations from helping them. They need help and we cannot reach them.
@doctorswithoutborders.org staff say people are dying of suspected hunger, as their only food is boiled tree leaves. About 12 children have died of acute watery diarrhea or malaria. At least 10 people have been abducted by armed gangs including a woman who was shot dead, even though she had a baby.
@doctorswithoutborders.org calls on the international community, United Nations agencies, embassies, and other influential organizations to help secure humanitarian access to Nyatim. Let aid in!
