Nothing has a moat anymore but somehow still none of the software does what I want. Interesting

Whenever there is a new technology that can get you 90%, 80%, 70% of the way to the quality standards of the previous way of doing things for a fraction of the cost there's an explosion of low-quality junk.

This isn't actually always an entirely bad thing? Frequently, lower-quality things are being made on a tight budget that otherwise simply would not have been made at all before. Even if quality is, in the absolute sense, low, an audience that would not have been served at all now is.

An explosion of low-quality stuff is ALSO a sign that a kind of thing that could previously be done by professionals is now within reach of amateurs. A lot of early online video was crap! but it was wildly creative because people who could never have made and distributed video before suddenly could.

There's really no substitute for time, effort, and hard work when creating quality. Technology can reduce the time or amount of hard work needed in the absolute sense, but the last 10%, 20%, 30% is by far the hardest part.

And if technology can get you 80% of the way there really cast, people will often just. Set their sights a little bit lower.
