Is there a better name for that specific technique? Not super relevant to this specific thread, just figured I'd ask if you knew since IIUC you can be cleanroom without using that specific workflow and I haven't SEEN any less unfortunate names for it yet?

Yeah, clean-room just means "reimplemented by someone who has has the original code described for them by someone who was code-contaminated but has not seen it themselves"! We had to clean-room part of LJ when we forked

All our most active people save one were code-contaminated, too, even if we hadn't had access in ages, which is how poor Jen had to reinvent most of our admin tools with me and Mark sitting there describing them to her, heh

Mark has made SIGNIFICANT improvements! This is why I was able to get bluesky mentions to happen! I have ideas for further improvements but I'm not sure the juice is worth the squeeze, my ambition tends to outstrip my productivity, and the current system has the benefit of actually exising soo.

...I actually need to write issues for some of the subsequent work on bsky/atproto mentions. there are some design stuff I want feedback on wrt both name resolution and putting a bluesky/atproto in "other sites" on the user profile page.

I've actually got a patch for the latter but there's some possible UX issues I want advice on. Name resolution is a much more invasive change with significantly greater consequences for getting it wrong, so I *really* want feedback on my plan before toching it.

I'm happy to opine in Discord if you grab me sometime and give me a tour, although @momijizukamori.bsky.social is usually much better at UX, I just point and grunt "me no like", heh

yeah, though in this case @kareila.bsky.social rewrote the whole external site section of the profile not too long ago and may have opinions, heh.

So the real question is whether we make a "bluesky" external site, an "atproto" or "Atmosphere" external site (probably called "Atmosohere/Bluesky" if we do that because users don't necessarily know what that is), or add both, or do something else.

What I mean is that in the atproto system your bluesky profile is but one facet of your account, and an optional one at that: there are live accounts on the network right now that do not have bluesky profiles! They're rare at present, but they do exist.

The solution to this is to send the user to a universal profile site that provides an account overview no matter what kind of services you do or don't have on your account. @dame.is's @aturi.to service does this very well.

However, that's a weird website most users have never seen before and the majority of users are probably gonna want to link their bsky profile? Additionally idk if users really want other people to see EVERY SERVICE their account is known to use when linking it.

Yeahhhhh. Hmmm. "Bluesky/Atmosphere account" with a tooltip or FAQ to link people to a universal atmosphere profile service like that so they can decide if they want to link to it? I'm pretty sure people can have more than one link to a single external service now...

...oh shoot, that reminds me, what's the process for FAQ updates? Once bsky @mentions are live the FAQ section on external site mentions probably needs to be updated to explain the Weirdness around them.
