🧵 Gonna try to do #100HorrorMoviesIn92Days this year. Here’s my thread. 💀😱🔪

1) Obsession A simple on the surface premise that delivers. Insane for the budget. www.themoviedb.org/movie/133971...

2) Hokum Adam Scott just excels at playing this kind of character, though this is not his typical genre. Overall an enjoyable watch, and while I don’t typically go in for jump scares (it’s not all there is here), the ones found here worked for me. www.themoviedb.org/movie/143007...

3) Malevolent Uninspired entry in the paranormal sub-genre. Predictable, not very scary unless ghost stories really creep you out. Florence Pugh is great, but she can only carry so much. I don't often watch movies w/o checking a rating somewhere. This is why. www.themoviedb.org/movie/481375...

4) Bones and All I don't often go for body horror, but the subgenre is wider than I had originally thought. Cronenberg's Crimes of the Future springs to mind: deeply unsettling. But I hadn't considered that, zombies, etc, would also count. Also, romance? www.themoviedb.org/movie/791177...

Movie 5 - Thir13en Ghosts This style of filmmaking is just not for me. The sound design is overbearing without creating actual tension. Matthew Lillard will always have a place in my heart. www.themoviedb.org/movie/9378-t...

6) The Ritual Scandi and pagan lore. Cryptids. The woods. Nightmares do come true. Enjoyable. Will probably read the book. www.themoviedb.org/movie/433808...

7) Apostle Feels very puritan-meets-pagan, and certainly a bloodier flavour of folk horror. It was OK, but I wouldn't rush to recommend it if you weren't already a big fan of this subgenre. www.themoviedb.org/movie/424121...

8) The Witch Of the four features he’s given us so far, the only Robert Eggers film I’d seen thus far was Nosferatu. He’s giving us takes on classic folk horror: witches, vampires, werewolves. The casting, cinematography, performances: all very enjoyable. www.themoviedb.org/movie/310131...

9) The Hunt Satire. Conspiracy theory. Blood. Betty Gilpin is a modern final girl. A light(er)hearted break from the last few. Fun if you like political satire with your scares. www.themoviedb.org/movie/514847...

10) Ready or Not Fun. Not perfect, and not particularly scary. First time seeing Samara weaving? Good. Melanie Scrofano always elevates things. Adam Brody as Adam Brody. www.themoviedb.org/movie/567609...

11) The Last House Monster movie. Covid allegory. Family drama and turmoil. Greta Lee and Wagner Moura are doing all of the lifting here. Good actors can be entertaining even if the picture is messy. Less horror, more supernatural thriller. www.themoviedb.org/movie/128404...

12) His House Folk horror extraordinare. Genuinely creepy and unnerving. Wunmi Mosaku is always excellent. If you haven't seen We Own This City and have the stomach for a true story about police corruption, it's highly recommended. Hope we see more from Weekes. www.themoviedb.org/movie/575774...

13) Host Found footage for the Zoom era. ~55 mins, so if you're on a tight time budget, it's a good pick. Filmed / released during Covid lockdowns / isolation, I'm sure this was even more unsettling to watch then. Creepy. #100HorrorMoviesIn92Days www.themoviedb.org/movie/723072...

14) Dream Eater I typically try to find something redeeming about a piece of art… it’s… Canadian? Not recommended. www.themoviedb.org/movie/131787...

15) Strange Darling Whodunit. Thriller. Crime spree. Ed Begley Jr! #100HorrorMoviesIn92Days www.themoviedb.org/movie/102928...

16) It Comes At Night Not for me. Not bad, just... not for me. www.themoviedb.org/movie/418078...

17) You’re Next Another slasher entry. Unexpected seeing Ti West on screen. Good watch if you like slashers. Bloody but not particularly gory, which I appreciate. www.themoviedb.org/movie/83899-...

18) 1922 American Gothic offering from the mind of Stephen King, whose writing was my entry point into horror. Not all of his work is for me, but I really enjoy some. Was avoiding it b/c I'm not a fan of Tom Jane, but he fit well here. Will have to read. www.themoviedb.org/movie/452507...

19) Kinds of Kindness What. Just. Happened. Beautifully shot. Amazing cast. Definitely felt like cheating for this challenge since I wouldn’t have classified this as horror. Lanthimos is a fairly specific taste, but of the films I’ve seen, I’ve enjoyed most. www.themoviedb.org/movie/102995...

21) Blood Quantum Canadian zombie / slasher / political commentary. Over the top at times, yes. Novice acting sometimes, yes. Still well worth a watch. Incident at Restigouche added to the documentary watchlist. www.themoviedb.org/movie/592230...

22) Abigail Vampire horror comedy. The intersection of these 3 things can go very wrong or very right. This was closer to the latter. Enjoyable. www.themoviedb.org/movie/111187...

23) Salem's Lot I don't think I realized that King had written a vampire story. I knew of Salem's Lot but not what it was about. This was OK. The cast was enjoyable, and I do love a good vampire story. Will probably explore the other adaptations & the novel. www.themoviedb.org/movie/748230...
