wi-fi? prolly not. it's those cellular antennae on most cars made in the last ten to fifteen years that look like little shark fins on the roof in the back. you can usually pull the telematics fuse to disable them, but then you lose navigation and infotainment.

Why must everything new be shit I want a car that isn't rusting off the frame. But also a car that isnt spying on me.

My 2006 Honda Element can’t send data via WiFi because it doesn’t know how. To access data while driving, I installed an aftermarket entertainment/nav system that keeps Google updated on my location so it can direct me. If you don’t want your vehicle sending data, remove the transponder.

Are AI executives begging for immunity from damage they created? Is the sudden concern about "humanity" a smokescreen for a technology with a 95% failure rate? Have AI executives been making knowingly false promises for years (i.e. fraud)? What do you think? www.thedataexperts.us/writing/ente...

thedataexperts.usAI Project Failure Rate: Why 95% Fail and What the 5% DoMIT data puts the enterprise AI failure rate at 95%. See the root causes, why 42% of companies abandon AI initiatives, and the framework the 5% use.

Subaru uses Startlink; no way I'm going to pay for it to remain active! Also found the app to be useless so that's gone. Still don't quite trust the car though; why I kept my late husband's beast of a 2007 FJ Cruiser. Every time privacy is mentioned I secretly forgive it the gas consumption!

That's right, go out and buy those new cars and let them spy on you and sell your data and jack your prices up even more. Man...

Depending on your driving needs, an old Nissan Leaf can be had for about $5-7k with 65mi of range in mixed highway/city driving and I'm pretty sure its cellular connection won't work since it should be 3G. Might be an option as a second car, especially since EVs have very low maintenance needs.

Fair. But I have a 32 mpg little car and a Dodge 2500 turbo diesel for emergencies and rarely pulling our pop-up camper. They're paid for. Being retired on Social Security it's just not possible. Frankly my kids will inherit these. I don't drive much anymore.

I knew I was in trouble when my hybrid Honda CRV started showing what speed limit was whereever I was driving--changing by the block at times.

I believe, at least with KIA, this spying is only enabled if you buy the connect service which uses the vehicles built in cellular. Tesla’s connect service is paid for in your purchase price for 8 years or forevermore.

Phones, cars, smart home devices... They can even use wifi to *precisely* scan and track your movements. And all so they can suck away all "your" money. And if you don't comply they'll disable "your" stuff. And that's the corporations. The government buys this data to bypass warrants. Paranoid yet?

I broke my leg the same year I bought a new car. I had others drive me around to doctors appointments and shopping etc. When it came time to renew my insurance my per month payment went from okay to SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS from the OnStar data. Every company I called for a lower rate quoted the same

It’s no wonder why they need all these data centers to process your information. They opened car door, weight on seat, they turned on car , they drove the speed limit , stoped at light, stoped @store. They turned off car , they open door , weight off seat , closes door , door locked.

I have a 1993 Corolla in beautiful shape with only 146K km (91K mi) on it. When I bought it, it was intended to be my 'last car'. So far, so good. Automatic transmission, manual windows, manual door locks.

Paywalled. Because it's bait to get subscribers rather than genuine journalism to inform the public. You could have offered the article for free, then said "if you liked this story, subscribe for more!" But no, you're just another money-grubbing rag like all the others.

This isn’t just an issue with cars. Have a digital thermostat or a smart speaker? Have you bought a major appliance lately? A smart TV? Vendors have been collecting every conceivable piece of data for a decade. Google even once bought a shopping mall to test tracking Android phones through stores.

Fuck these car companies! If my screen starts showing ads, I am going to take a hammer to it. I am also tired of car companies jumping on these shitty subscription products. If a company comes out and makes a dumb vehicle with no connectivity and you can fix or service yourself, I am first in line.
