Roger Vadim's Barbarella was released 58 years ago today. "In the 41st century, an astronaut partakes in sexy misadventures while seeking to stop an evil scientist who threatens to unleash a powerful weapon upon the galaxy." Such a 1968 movie.

[Sci-fi movie in development] Barbarella In 2022, Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria, The White Lotus) was attached to star in a new movie based on Jean-Claude Forest’s French comic book series that was turned into a 1968 movie starring Jane Fonda. Director Edgar Wright joined the project last year. 1/3

Anyway, it will not function in 2026! Today, any sexual allusions are forbidden no-go´s, like extraterrestrial bugs... And the original is a complete sex-paraphase indeed and kind of former feminist liberation thru undressing.

And, second (very very close to first rank): There is not an grain of humor or self-irony today. Not at all. But even a complete loss of facility. Tragic. The ol´feminist thing: Beeing naked and free of conventions as an act of (female) encounter (see french erotic movement: Nothing in 2026.

It's a shame they gave it away at the beginning, when she put off her gloves. That detail shot could easily achieved without the pane. But overall it's a remarkably solid effect. 🤌

I rewatched it recently. I first saw it as a teenager. One of the great things about 3 channel UK TV was that you watched whatever was shown. I never noticed the badly renditioned copy of George Seurat's, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, in the background.

When I first watched it as a teenager and heard Duran Duran was in it. The more I watched it, the more I thought, how are they in this film? Then I saw the old man Duran Duran. That's not Duran Duran. Good film
