They use methane as the fuel. It is the cleanest rocket fuel. ULA/SLS use solid fuels (to help hydrogen main engines) and they are the worst. But SpaceX can/could/should start using biomethane.

Actually, the EPA was busting Musk's succulent tuchas about how the blasts-off were damaging the habitat of a local indigenous land crab, so this new wave of pre-take off explosions is his cruel way of having a clambake.
