That was my first response… but then I watched it again when other seismo folk were excited. Try watching it again and ignore the foreground and look at the mound of brown behind the arched gateway-or anything to the right of the right fence. Just pick a single reference point and then you’ll see it
I don't remember seeing the *formation* of a surface rupture like this before. This was a 7.7 Mw quake near Thazi in Myanmar on 28 March 2025. The fault rupture was strike-slip at a depth of 10 km, likely along a N-striking fault. Video credit: GP Energy Myanmar (h/t @longhairnasaguy.bsky.social)
I work in the geospatial field and all I can think of (beyond the obvious destruction) is how any existing mapping would become wildly less accurate in the span of a few seconds. I'm not sure if Myanmar has much in the way of terrain maps but a wild shift like that would wreak havoc. Crazy to watch.
If anyone knows, this ground movement from Copernicus, might be from earthquake? Or different possition of layers in satelite? Dates: 20.3.25 and 30.3.25 Source browser.dataspace.copernicus.eu?zoom=13&lat=...
