I just realized something about myself and why I get irritated when people criticize trans people for pushing people into transitioning or making a decision before they're ready. It's because I offer encouragement, but not towards transition; and I know very well that it can be seen that way.

I think the egg prime directive was more necessary 10 years ago when EVERYBODY was getting excited about HRT seemingly all at once, e.g. they needed a hard and fast rule that excited tumblr users and discord kittens could be bapped with like a newspaper.

I encourage what people might see as specific behaviour, as if to bait-and-switch someone who is questioning, not to get them to commit to deciding what they are - but to learn how to express themselves in ways that will help them figure that shit out.

My transition went the way it did because I knew that I wanted to express myself more openly, and how I wanted to do it - I was being held back by the perception of my gender identity. I became trans so that I could do more shit that I wanted to, but felt like who I was meant that I couldn't.

So when I encourage people to do things that buck gender norms, it's not because I'm trying to get people to transition, or for their egg to crack (not my favourite term but it's there). I want them to find their own language through personal expression so that they can answer the right questions.
