A really small, but still confusing number of people have said, with the confidence of a kid who's smoked two joints talking to a kid who has smoked one, that the Internet Archive either destroys books, or does this process and THEN destroys the books, and that's such a weird wrong fact to believe.

We've been getting a lot of questions about how the Internet Archive digitizes books. The short answer: page by page, by hand. You may remember our viral 2021 video of Eliza Zhang scanning a book. That's still how we do it. Meet Eliza, and learn how we scan books: blog.archive.org/2021/02/09/m...

You can mail me at jscott@archive.org if you think you have a situation where the use of one is needed for some unique purpose.

Just an old computer manual I hadn't been able to find elsewhere. Wanting to get it scanned and available, but not wanting to destroy it any more than it has been. Trying to figure out how best to go about it.
