always loved this artwork, in my mind the frame is part of a gate like the door in the background, great sense of scale, it makes me sad that videogames are just not this cool anymore. the game is Ishar, by Silmarils, legendary french developer

The artwork of Ishar: Legend of the Fortress by Mark Harrison used on the cover of the #MSDOS and #CommodoreAmiga releases in Europe and North America (Amiga version). Usual upscale/clean/retouch process applied.

I recognised it almost immediately. I had Ishar back in the day, picked up cheap via Special Reserve, and although I never got all that far in the game the vibes were incredible. The in-game rendition of this on the title screen was pretty mind-blowing back then too.
