When will they understand that militarised police do not increase safety they reuce it? Or is that the inention REDUCTION OF POPULATION MENTAL HEALTH WORKERS JUSTICE EQUITY and life for all

I've been suffering from the effects of a series of brain injuries. An officer pulled me over because my vehicle's inspection expired. When he asked for my dl, I also handed him a card explaining my situation, he immediately began doing the kind of things that could set me off into an angry response

This is our governments answer to not providing mental healthcare, not since Republicans decided to close all the mental health institutions decades ago to cut taxes for the wealthy (seem familiar)? The consequences are rampant homelessness which republicans then use as a cudgel to bash Dems.

Supposedly, if you’re too smart, you can’t be a policeman. This precludes having cops who can be trained to recognize mitigating mental health issues when responding to a disturbance, often resulting in tragedy.

Being American can be downright dangerous when interacting with domestic terrorist. Bad shit runs downhill and those least able to defend themselves get the worst of our bad decisions and lack of responsibility.

The police profession in general attracts dim thugs and bullies who crave authority but are not smart enough to achieve it by any other means.

People who gravitate to professions like police work are two sorts: 1) those who want to serve society and keep it safe; and 2) those who want to empower and provide themselves with narcissistic supplies (desired acknowledgement of their greatness, power, superiority). Violence comes from group 2.

The school systems focusing on validation of everyone's feelings and "truth" rather than teaching consequences has created a generation of over sensitive babies who can't deal with the harsh realities of being an adult. You all created this monster.

I suspect that cities prefer police to kill disabled people because it’s a lot cheaper and more convenient than placing them in a mental health facility. Government always strives to save money and policies are structured accordingly. abc7.com/post/anaheim...

abc7.comAnaheim police shot and killed man in mental health crisis, family saysThe family of a man fatally shot by Anaheim police has filed a claim against the city, alleging officers used unnecessary deadly force while he was suffering a mental health episode.

Legal violence (police, armies, guards) has historically had as its main mission to keep the common people, the workers, the dispossessed away from the aristocracy, from the slave-owning elites who siphon off wealth for their sole benefit!

I remember when the maggots used to say we wanted to "Defund the Police", when we actually wanted to get them more funding to allow a psychologist or social worker to ride with the police on these types of calls. The maggots are the reason why we can't have nice things. These folks deserve a chance.

Some of us do want to defund the police, for such cases like this bring mental health services INSTEAD OF police, not alongside them. Police should not be used when what’s needed is a crisis intervention for disabled folks or healthcare

This is arguably a violation of medical license rules - emergency services are using police to deal with medical conditions that deserve expert intervention instead. Everyone knows the real reason why American’t does this - part of the Anglofascist eugenics agenda.

Pls see Canada's Nova Scotia Report on Mass Shooting - multi-volume reccs how to improve policing. Mostly- follow Finland: 3 yr college/ uni degree, starts w/ethics, human rights & recognizing diversity - physical/ weapon training as "last recourse/avoid" masscasualtycommission.ca/final-report/

Agencies of authority should teach and learn about this: e.g Aliya Rahman in Minneapolis last winter, but many more. With a leader who seeks points by mocking the disabled, it's hard for kids to get it right. Teach your children well.

I’m a special ed teacher. My colleagues have no training in how to teach/how to analyze teaching interventions, or research on effective teaching. Zero training. My students are on a path to prison and I stand against their incarceration. Most teachers can’t because they don’t know how.

these tragedies result from poor candidate screening, insufficient training, lack of police force professionalization, inadequate and/or unenforced internal department policies, and inept, indifferent, or corrupt oversight that's how we know what police are really used for in many parts of the US

I would like to take away their weapons in most situations and arm them with increased training, compassion, and empathy. But this is a systemic problem that needs a systemic solution as well. We need changes at all levels, imo

988 routes to 911 dispatch in smaller Texas municipalities.“Mental Health Officers” get appx 4 hours of training classes with no other mental health background. The National Suicide Hotline was “upgraded” to 988 and this is the way mental health is handled. Acadia Health has almost 300 facilities.

Acadia Health operates for profit. And as a matter of course the 988 call will result in 48-72 hour hold. all means of contact with the outside world including family is extracted. They file for involuntary commitment which in some justifications takes months to get a court hearing.$2200/day.

95% of the claims are dismissed but during that time the $2200/day bill adds up.solitary confinement, overuse of pharmaceuticals, sedation for noncompliance and sexual assault unaddressed

Police are often very poorly screened and trained I’ve seen it too often Bad aptitude follows bad attitude When a gunfight requires an officer to discharge multiple rounds, he doesn’t know what he’s doing I’m not a cop, I was tactically trained for SpecOps and the pressures are similar enough

This is exactly what I mean. There is no reason to see someone who's non-verbal, non-speaking, or selectively mute as uncooperative or combative. It just doesn't make sense. I'm sorry this happened to you

Of an add'l $334M $ Biden gave to police, more than $43M of it was for 178 local govts to support crisis intervention teams, deescalation training, + community policing strategies. He wanted to provide more in the budget, but Repubs didn't pass it. Have depts. not used the money as intended?

Cheaper to kill people with disabilities then help or treat them. Bad for profit...Shoot first, ask later. In Europa we are choked by the aggressiveness from US police. A minor traffic fault results in hand-coves...never seen in EU! Police EU just talks to you and gives a fine, most often warning.

And don’t forget those with mental illnesses!!! I worked in several areas where the local police had to go through training and we distributed home placards alerting LEOs that there were one or more individuals with a mental illness in the house.

I agree, and I think it's important for everyone to understand that interacting with the police is dangerous and act accordingly. I also think it's really important to highlight who is at the most risk and specifically work to improve those outcomes

I discovered I score in the low 20's on the Autism tests. Would have been nice to know in my 20's. Police never like me because I am quick to answer and the answers just drip with sarcasm. Which Police hate. Since then, if pulled over I keep my answers as short as possible. No problems now.

So, the solution isn't to defund the police, it is to refund the social services that have been cut to 'save' the budget of too many places! With properly applied funding, many of the problems would simply melt away, instead of escalating into police situations!

Maybe I should have said that right-funding the police is the correct answer and that involves refunding social agencies that help to eliminate the escalation into police confrontational situations! I'm better at revising my statements after some added thought time!

This was as is since decades. People only see Trump, but it’s the whole system which never was “free”. And it’ll remain being a pseudo democracy for whites after him. Tv will manage more emergencies and police series for hiding real status.

All metropolitan police departments should have specialized unarmed units trained to respond to episodes of mental distress where the greatest danger is not to the police or bystanders but the subject themselves

Police are fcking dumb. They can only beat up smart people to force them to comply because their directions are always illegal. And because smart people call put their bullshit, the cops get violent. Being Neurodivergent is fcking hard!

Unfortunately at the time it happened, I wasn’t able to do much. I didn’t get the deputy’s name. His decision to put me in handcuffs and in the back of his patrol car escalated my panic & ended up in the hospital. I’ve moved since then & am active in training programs for crisis situations like mine

Bright flashing lights, already nervous, commands - even if asked professionally - that don't make sense in the moment, and the response to them that may be misinterpreted by law enforcement. It's a scenario for a lot of escalating mistakes with escalating consequences.

Not a police issue, but rather a policy issue. This all started when Regan decided the best place for the mentally ill was at home with family and shut down mental health facilities. Now the mentally ill are mostly homeless or dead. Another fine non-humane policy brought to you by Republicans.

I don't disagree completely. There were bad actors, to be sure, but if the funding were there, overcrowded and unsanitary conditions would not have been an issue to begin with. The choice was between fixing or scrapping, and Regan chose scrapping so 100000s ended up losing care.
