2) and 3) are intimately linked, in that the BBC (the organisation that really matters in the modern environment) treats 'claims by rival parties' as the operating frame for how it covers everything. The failure from Labour and the Conservatives to say 'this stuff is bad' is really, really bad.

Please clarify for me; Did I not see a news chanel bust Farage for taking $500k from an American for Reform? On camera. Have I got this wrong? What happened to this? It just like when 🍊 had 300 Capitol One accounts closed for money laundering. WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS STORY? Are we in a simulation?

On the BBC, we need to get back to 'facts rule'. When balance means giving equal coverage to parties and politicians talking complete nonsense, that needs to be called out. When messaging is based on pleasing lobbyists, that needs to be highlighted. (Tice gets away with 'net stupid zero' without...

... ever being challenged on Reform funding from fossil fuel interests). As for the masked-up intimidation rally, how the pro-Palestinian protests are deemed 'antisemitic hate marches' when Jews attend them in considerable numbers - theirs being the greatest proportional representation of any...

... other grouping, I believe - while one would be forgiven for suspecting few immigrants lurked behind those masks yet we can guarantee 'hate' won't be a word used in any commentary, things are utterly out of whack now. And yes, under Burnham, Labour needs to step up. At least we can hope the...

... press will feel compelled to talk sense if it's as quotes from the Prime Minister. But the Tories? No. It ain't gonna happen under Badenoch, not when she's threatening to expel candidates for office who acknowledge the climate crisis but hires Joshua Bonehill-Paine.

Yes the BBC has this flaw I suspect the other parties keeping schtum is to avoid distracting from Reform stewing in the dodgy money juice, with side helpings of ‘let the police do their job’, and ‘we don’t know anything about this protester yet; let‘s not throw backing behind someone unvetted’.

There's such a void of leadership from Burnham, and in journalistic ability/integrity/willingness at the BBC, that the front page currently quotes the council leader...

Even viewed cynically, I struggle to see why Burnham and Co won't condemn this. These scumbags will never vote Labour, and neither will their supporters. But I reckon many voters want to see masked bastards vilified, to feel we still have standards. What's the argument to *not* attack them?

The likes of Tommy and Tommo and Rupert are Reform's direct competition on the far right, but also serve to present themselves the acceptable, besuited version of racism, 'unlike those uncouth yobos'.

I’m not stupid. I know this is tactical rather than doctrinal. What it does however is that it shows that a stronger reaction for the supposedly left-wing government is possible and it’s a choice not to react more strongly.

IDK, if the police had done anything then Reform would have been the first to cry foul. These things are set up as win win in their view. There aren't the number of police required for riot control situations like this.

That’s an intelligence failure* because relevant agencies are too busy monitoring climate activism and not spending time on monitoring fascism. *of course it’s not, the British state never makes mistakes and therefore we can conclude it’s intentional.

Thank you @gilltav.bsky.social for reminding us all of the Police response in 2021 👇 when some 40 environmental activists of Insulate Britain blocked the Port of Dover: 39 arrests. Compare that to yesterday when 200-400 fascist paramilitaries intimidated Dover town and blocked the Port: 0 arrests.

Agree, it's a win,win for Reform because it's changed the narrative from 'Nigel's a crook' to 'Labour are soft', but if there'd been a riot it's 'Nigel condemns 2 tier policing, they would have allowed it if they weren't white' , heads he wins, tails he wins, job done.

But isn’t Tice just strategically distancing Reform Ltd from these guys, whom Reform has enabled with their endless immigration & boats rhetoric.

and dangerous that supposedly moderate parties like Labour and Conservatives apparently don't want to be seen criticising such "protest". If you don't know what to say, maybe just copy-paste the statement from Grant Shapps from 2021 on a similar occasion?

I couldn't help but pick up on this vignette "Among the software that Palantir supplied to the Met was a system intended to identify misconduct by officers, which the force has said has been highly effective." Apart from highlighting Palantir's interest in bent police, where are the court cases ?

Exactly, the form of words, the labelling of some as legit and others as dodgy terrorists, business as respectable no matter what and unions as rabble rousers. Tone matters.

I know Cabinet collective responsibility and this is the home office brief, but frankly why isn't there at least one cabinet minister calling this out? You don't need home office sign off for calling out paramilitary thugs as bad.

And where is the labour backbench rage at least in briefs demanding that the home office or PM say or do something, or direct the police to actually do their job over arresting grannies with placards?

The parties, particularly Labour, not doing this must be the result of someone making a persuasive argument that it shouldn’t be done. I have still yet to hear anyone make it, or even read a report this argument having being made (I may have missed it?)

Under Starmer it would have been McSvengali. With Burnham I think Hanlon's Razor is more likely to apply - the team of malcontents that propelled him into Number 10 has dissolved because he's rewarded them with proper jobs. Also a lot - too much - is probably being 'saved' for conference?
