Gov. Tim Walz is doubling down on trans rights — and criticizing members of his party who are retreating — at a time when the issue has become a political lightning rod nationally and back home in Minnesota.

And 35 years ago about women, and 45 years ago about blacks. The Reich wing always needs a minority to vilify to keep their idiot base from realizing how badly they are being screwed and rise up and string the rich Reich wing leaders up by their intestines.

Anyone seeing this, be aware there's been a movement among Jews to back off from supporting trans groups that are overtly antisemitic. Jews are forming their own trans right support network and the only requirement to be a part of it is to support trans (LGBTQ+) and not be an antisemite

There's always going to be assholes trying to persuade us to lose our values. We have to stand up and tell them we're not going back into the closet. So far, Democrats have held the line. We need to back them up when they do!

Lightning rod my ass. It's unconscionable dems have permitted the right to make this into a moral panic when debunking the idea of some hidden army of trans people living through constant bigotry just to peek over your bathroom stall is trivial. It really just shows they are not above transphobia.

"Why won't people turn out for dems! Must just be lazy idk" the spine. It's because you lack a fucking spine. Have standards. Fuck off if you don't.

People are people! All human beings deserve human rights, not giant targets on their backs painted by the loudest, crassest, rage-baitiest amongst us. Leaders who “double down” on extending human rights to every human being are the leaders we need. Like… this shouldn’t be controversial.

He was muzzled almost immediately. We had a week or so of him attacking the GOP before the DNC and Harris campaign told him to stop. That was the problem, not him being “too nice.”

The Repubs were already calling Walz “Tampon Tim” before his weak performance in the debate. Tampon Tim stuck bc it captured a truth about Walz. He’s nice to the point of cringe-worthiness. American voters choosing a president choose strength over niceness every time.

Good! Dems joining Reps in torturing trans people is a dealbreaker for me. I know a few trans people, so yeah, there is that. But even if I didn't, I strongly think trans folks can make their own decisions. And torturing them shows the lowest level of bullying. A Newsom level. Fuck the bullies

Hi from Canada; Gov. Walz is what they call a "good man". This way of life is widely available to study and emulate; some "Americans" are not man enough to do this, apparently. That said, too many "Americans" are not man enough to even know when they are "out of their (intellectual) league". #sorry

Hey just curious why the "lightning rod" isn't how the entire Republican party is creepily obsessed with kids genitals. Can we maybe ask why that's even remotely anyone else's business? Can we maybe connect this weird obsession with the constant stream of Republicans getting arrested guy sex crimes?

The people voting for Republicans are the people who could not give less of a shit about real sex crimes. “Grab em by the pussy”. They didn’t care. “I’d fuck my daughter if she wasn’t my daughter”. They didn’t care Epsitein flight logs. They didn’t care. They don’t care. They never cared.

The party wants to shut him up, but he is literally the leader we want! The only way to beat MEGA is to call them out and get loud. Tim understands!

People over parties, the sacrosanctness of human dignity over party mandates. When you allow actual humans to be less important than potential humans and/or political power, you’re allowing for any one of us to be in risk of being dehumanized. He understands the assignment, and good on him.

I didn't vote for Trump but you're going to have to get past an election that happened 7 months ago. Those of us who truly care are out in the streets just about every weekend. We aren't sitting online bitching about how we hypothesize specific groups voted over half a year ago.

I'm neither a Minnesotan nor a trans person, and I'm not even that progressive by Democratic standards, but Walz will have my vote whenever he asks for it. I want Democrats who stand up for principles, not put their finger in the wind on every issue.

"No one can object to that" You know the middle of the road trying to please everybody strategy is the exact kind of shit that makes people fucking *hate* the Dems. This "Well we don't really want to make a stand so how about we do something everyone likes" is delusion, nobody likes that solution.

Democrats who betray their trans constituents will betray any of their constituents. They will betray you. Only test for whether they will fight for you when it counts is if they will fight for those who are politically inconvenient with no instant payoff. If they're expendable, you're expendable

Gov Walz can be more progressive than Mayor Pete - and that’s ok because we’re all better than republicans. But Dems had better wake up and open the primaries to independent liberal voters - if they want to ever win elections again.

We shouldn’t have to remind DEMOCRATS what the “I” in DEI stands for. Thanks Gov Walz for standing up to establishment democrats who have more in common with republicans than they have in common with us.

We really need to grapple with the fact that there are a not insignificant number of democrats that are vocally transphobic. You can't just pretend that Elisa Slotkin, Seth Moulton, Tom Suozzi, and Andrew fucking Cuomo don't exist just because the republicans are worse.

Unfortunatly not how primaries or elections work usually (especially if most democrats start feeling more right wing democrats are safer bets in elections). Ellisa Slotkin might as well be a Trump agent and she is in her second term.

It’s only a political lightening rod because of the bad faith of the media and democratic consultants. It’s such an obvious cynical contrivance by the GOP because that’s the only way they can win power.

It keeps failing here too, when put to a vote. The hateful trans panic politics being alive at all is tremendously on the new york times editorial staff trying to be British and importing that island's insane transphobia relentlessly.

Any oxygen that mainstream media has given stories about Trans athletes lately is just gross. They know what they are doing but fear born out of greed is what drives news worthiness these days. They should all be ashamed.

THe Democratic Party should not be "grappling with a debate". The bans are a direct attack on basic human rights, which are not negotiable. The Democratic Party should stop trying to make the issue go away, and meet it head-on.

It's less of a lightning rod and more of a great distraction that people like you keep held up when we could just accept trans people exist and move onto more important things like not bowing to a fascist take over of our country?

"Weird" how the article didn't include the polls that said 54% of Americans did not want government involvement in school sports. But honestly, polls are irrelevant. Human rights are not conditional on popular support. Like 90% of people opposed the civil rights act.

Lost me with Return to Office with no consultation with employees in a futile attempt to save St Paul. Showed a lack of judgment as it will cost a lot more for building space, maintenance, electricity, etc. and they will be less productive. Also prevents people from outside the metro getting jobs.
