Bluesky devs.. How about a compromise. Support inbound RSS. Let me enter the URL of an RSS feed in settings. I'll ping a fixed location when the feed updates. Such a system would allow the same flow to go to other systems. This would help a lot. PS: I'll help.

I was thinking of writing something like this. Create a bot account for a given RSS feed, with profile pic and bio and everything. Pull each entry and post right to BlueSky as they come in. Can crowd source the sourcing of feed urls. Can extend easily to podcast RSS feeds too.

1) Bridgyfed literally already does this, it works, you can use it right now. 2) Natively supporting inbound RSS pretty severely compromises Bluesky's guarantees around authenticity of content. Bridgyfed is free to rewrite anything coming in through RSS/Atom, you can't stop it.

Also they should fix bug which means full length of URL in RSS posted item is counted against post size limit. This forces the need for URL shortening, which is ugly as user can't see where the URL goes.

A more modest request... is there a setting to keep your position in the "thread" for the next time you reenter the app? It seems like it's always navigating to most recent instead of maintaining your place so you can scroll forward.

If you do RSS, could you make sure it's well-behaved RSS? There are some clients out there that really, really aren't (check for updates every 5 seconds, ignore metadata on updates and just pull down everything every time, that sort of thing...)

Ok let me try... So when I follow you I see your posts and generally the content that I view makes me giggle. Now if you had an RSS feed your content is formatted and I can fetch that information by way of a URL, use AI to enhance the feed aggregation, and eventually rule the world.

Given that the conversation has rightly turned to billionaire-proofness of Bluesky, if you allow devs to build on Bluesky with RSS in and out, you have your answer for being billionaire-proof. It's the simplest and cheapest way to alleviate that concern. (btw, plz increase the char limit, thx)

Let’s find a way to compensate the content creators behind the RSS outside of advertising so they can keep creating content and have more accountability to citizens.

Why the desire for RSS? Are you trying to make it easier for people who don’t know what RSS is to see feeds? Seems like anyone with an RSS feed could automate the same update as posts here in they want to. Then the provider of the information is more in control of where the information goes.

You do know there are old geezers on here who can barely pull it together enough to sign up to Bluesky. I still don't know how to post something new. From your language I see you as a guru. If you need any chainsaw advice, I'm your man.

Ah I think you’re looking for a central authority. That will never, ever, happen. Due to the distributed nature of ATproto. But for the record, I think you’re 100% incorrect here. It’s quite demonstrably enough, and impossible to fake. The DNS system is also much much more reliable

I liked the Key base verification method where you could establish a wide variety of proofs though URLs, DNS, Twitter posts, email etc. That thing was great.
