Winter is coming, but there will be moths www.sciencebase.com/science-blog...

First #Wogan of the winter last night #NoMoths #TeamMoth I realise there are some who don't like this term for a Blankety Blank trap, but it's convenient shorthand, perhaps engages a little more than just saying Blank, and might intrigue non-moth-ers to want to find out more about lepidoptera

It’s a bit of a sense of humour failure if someone doesn’t like it. I’m really not sure where the term #Wogan came from, but it seems to be becoming part of mothing folklore (😁😉)

Hehehe, yeah, I've no idea either, despite our DMs from last year, which I was just scanning, hahahah

It adds a bit of British humour to a disappointing situation

Exactly! I've written a bit about it www.sciencebase.com/science-blog...

USian here, why couldn't I find this when I was googling Wogan a few moths back?! I really like the diversity of moth-ers on bsky, and the slang is fun

someone explained Wogan to me before (probably you?) but jammie barsteward threw me for a loop! I was thinking "why does it matter what the guy's job is??!"

I assume you've got the Wogan reference now? Sir Terry Wogan hosted a TV quiz here called Blankety Blank, 1979 onwards. It was based on the 60s US game show Match Game :-)
