Interesting how NHTSA finding that 27 deaths btwn 1970-1977 in rear-impact crashes for Ford Pintos that then burst into flames moved the needle then, but 3,000 today is not enough.

I have thought about this for decades now. I drive a Prius and used to have a Leaf, so I’ve seen the grill of a thousand large vehicles from the drivers seat, and it’s scary to imagine them just plowing into my car.

Because those deaths aren’t real to them but their paychecks and the numbers on spreadsheets are. Pretty easy to focus on the upsides for You when the downsides are abstract hypotheticals you never need to confront or think about. That’s why the consequences imposed need to be direct and severe.

These (mostly all) guys are raised, literally, from middle school, on an alternate moral curriculum that is very very explicit about how they do NOT have a duty to society, only to what consumers will buy, because that is good & right. They do not think the way liberal arts college grads think

Old enough to remember when the Ford Pinto design was a scandal and an indictment of the business ethics of American corporate culture. Altogether the fuel tank design was responsible for 27 deaths.
