The Chun regime that my wife fought against in the 80s did the exact same thing. They needed a "crisis" that "only they could solve" to hoard more ill-gotten power, so they chose one city (Gwangju), declared its inhabitants enemies, sent trucks full of soldiers to violently attack and kill them.

Hey do you have a non-Amazon link to pick up Banned Book Club? I'm seeing one from Iron Circus but I'd like to confirm. I'd like to read it for the reasons you're discussing. Thanks!

The dictator had gotten all the media companies in the hands of his loyalists in advance so that they would happily repeat his lies, and people would be afraid to say it was politically-motivated mass murder for fear of being next. This is a well-worn playbook for historical atrocity.

I keep wanting to post panels from our book about life under the Chun regime that illustrate the similarities, but the murderous-dictator-playbook copying is SO blatantly obvious that if I did it every time, it would feel like I were using atrocities to promote a comic book.
