Attributes are generally difficult to use with tidyverse code. So as much as I like the feature, I'm skeptical of the approach.

Excellent! I'd seen the labelled package before, but I dismissed it because the description is so focused on SPSS data importing. As your talk shows, it's a great package for R alone!
