X shuts down apps that show its posts. Bluesky exists to ernable it. One of these networks is about promoting freedom, the other is not.

nitter.net is down. xcancel.com may go soon, too. all the respect to the folks at nitter for their services so far, but to be honest, X completely locking itself out of the web is probably a net positive for us all in the long term

This is not the same thing, but the single most common reason my friends won’t use Bluesky is because when is end them a post via iPhone text message it doesn’t show the post, but instead directs them to the app. I think this is a setting on some posts. Everyone hates this.

I do not. Other people do. Sometimes other people with this setting enabled make good posts I would like to share with my friends who are not on this app. Their reaction is “I’m not dealing with this weird bullshit”

This is also something that people on Mastodon complain pretty much constantly - "please don't share links to Bluesky here, because most of the posts I see they require login to view and I'm not gonna sign up there just to read it"

The insane thing is the data is public. You can just read it in pdsls or whatever. It’s not like making it hidden in the web UI accomplishes anything more than making posts obnoxious to read outside of the app. It’s a completely useless setting and I don’t think it should’ve ever existed.

Also any time the answer is “have you gone into your settings” the ux design is bad. I don’t want to go into my settings. I want to share things with my friends that make them laugh. I’m an idiot, not some pervert with a computer science degree.
