I don't like the labeling as right-wing extremists could almost certainly also be labeled "christian domestic terrorism" because we know almost all of the right wing extremists are also christian

It’s actually the same God, too… they’re arguing over interpretation. Allah is the same God as the Jehovah that Jews & Christians worship. Islamists even claim Jesus & Moses as prophets, they just don’t recognize Jesus’ divinity. It’s all the same insane cruelty at base.

I guess it helps provide a buffer against those who insist that anything Islamic is somehow automatically left-wing, by breaking it out. You can view it as part of the right, but even if someone views it as part of the left it's still massively outweighed by the rest of the right in these graphs.

Is there a list of the left wing extremist murders? I may blocking myself but, I can think of any. I did an ai inquiry of 'left wing political assassins' & got 4: Narodnya Volya - 1881- tsar Alexander Sirhan Sihan-1968 RFKennedy. Black panthers & communist party made unsuccessful attempts.

We should expect that the statistician who created this chart will be terminated. Then they will either not be replaced at all or will be replaced with someone who either cannot create a chart or who will agree to use more equal numbers.☹️

I always like it when I can also find a RW source that confirms it... written by someone from CATO bsky.app/profile/ilya...

My @cato.org colleague Alex Nowrasteh has great post on politically motivated violence in US, its (generally low) incidence, and who does it (9/11 dominates stats; otherwise right-wing violence much more common than left-wing & other since 1975): www.alexnowrasteh.com/p/politicall...

Numbers are fictional fodder to these folks. They only serve as material to manipulate. Truth is malleable. There is no such thing as fact. Trump’s strategy has been adopted across his support environment. Deny, Lie, Insult. Scream! Drown out any criticism and provide cover for the next disaster!

You're telling me that the political movement that commits the most politically motivated murders is the one that: 1. Teaches guns are a sacred means of protecting the country from invaders and terrorists. and 2. The left are terrorists hell bent on destroying the country.

It's been decades of MAINSTREAM right-wing media and ELECTED GOP politicians saying not only are guns a right, they're a DUTY and are BLESSED BY GOD while at the same time painting the entire left and immigrants as the worst violent criminal scum. They blood is on their hands, and they LIKE it.

And saying guns keep us safe. I see otherwise. It may keep isolated people or events safe if they shoot the shooter. Or they keep us safe if there are police or security guards trained to safeguard. Okay. But willy nilly owning and even hoarding weapons that can massacre multitudes in minutes?

It’s an obvious lie they’ve told since the 90s, in spite of all evidence and common sense. Some people just want to believe it. Like saying smoking was *actually* good for you because it lowers stress or something.

This should be a stacked bar chart or similar, not pie/donut. This reads as each year same amount of killings but they are quite different. Pie chats should almost never be used unless the % out of a hundred is the whole story, which is not the case here. The total is relevant as well

If it was one pie chat which was total of all years that would be true and make sense. When you add the additional dimension of time these do not make sense.

In my case I wouldn’t go as far as challenging. It’s a minor inconvenience, but one I encounter most days in one form or other. There are numerous guides for graphic and information designers so the problem is awareness rather than a lack of solutions.

He did.I’m from Minnesota and it really stuck in my memory. And that ignores that Melissa H’s killer shot another legislator and their spouse, and that he had a hit list of 70+ others.(all left leaning, mostly if not all dems.)DJT ignored all that.(To be fair, dementia means he’d likely not even know.)

The last time I remember any significant Left extremists commiting violence on a large scale as Right extremists do today was in 1972. I actually saw some of that which is when I started thinking about antipartison politics and multiple viable Parties. Now, we MUST rid the USA of fascism. UNITE!

Leftists tend to become violent when pushing back against repression. Rightists become violent in order to repress. They’re not opposite side of the same coin. They aren’t even the same fucking currency.

Excellent statistic. Now have the MSM and ALL the governors use it to underline that the political violence is coming from one side. But they will not. Like with everything else that is bad with Trump and fascism, they will keep bothsidying it.

1 in 2020? Oh, shut the fuck up. Like, 33 were killed in the George Floyd riots. I bet they are including the 2 self-defense killings by Kyle Rittenhouse as right-wing extremism. Instead of these made-up BS numbers, which they don't cite actual proof, list the people who were killed.

Just dropping this here (no person should get suspended for anything they say about Kirk's death). Republicans love this pro-death piece of shit, Trump. "Trump shares video of supporter saying "the only good Democrat is a dead Democrat"" www.cbsnews.com/news/preside...

cbsnews.comTrump shares video of supporter saying "the only good Democrat is a dead Democrat"The supporter in the video is a New Mexico politician who faced calls to resign for his comment.

Part of me feels like as left wingers we need to boost our stats Part of me wishes the right wing extremist stats included all the people the cops, ICE and CPB murder each year, the women who've died thanks to GOP forced birth policies, and the people in other countries we've continued to bomb

the people who see the world as a binary of rationality Vs religion have more in common with religious fundamentalists than fundamentalists have with most religious people

Its too bad the headline on the graphic isn’t more clear that it is referencing people doing the killing rather than those killed

i like how they separate 'domestic islamic extremist' from 'right wing extremist' They're the same picture. Both fueled by abrahamic religious zealotry and hatred for anyone who doesn't conform to their bronze-age regressive worldviews.

I've been trying to update this because not having 2023 and 2024 feels like a glaring omission, however, I'm now discovering why these were possibly left out: the numbers published in each ADL report are preliminary, and as such, prior totals may change--but without updates to ideology affiliation.

For example, in the most recent report (2024), they said that further research indicated 2022's total figure was increased from 25 to 28, and 2023's increased from 17 to 20. They did not offer amendments to the original reports or include information on the perpetrator's affiliation.

adl.orgadl.org

Those aren't numbers large enough to change the overwhelming ratio for those years, but it does make it difficult to complete the graphic as accurately as possible. ADL also noted the challenges encountered in assessing very recent incidents, where extremist affiliation wasn't immediately clear.

ADL suggests numbers don't stabilize for 5 years, and so, without committing to considerably more research, I will not be updating your chart with 2023 and 2024, but at least feel prepared to answer for why they aren't there if questioned. Thank you!
