When I see a non-junior neteng using PuTTY, I die inside a little. It is like you are a professional furniture assembler using the hexagon wrench found on the IKEA floor. And no, this is not the Turkish Olympic athlete kind of comparison.

Windows abomination is basically mandatory in many corporations. People with Macs are the lucky ones, and the same lucky cohort goes to conferences. 99% of the netengs must use Windows as per corporate policy and won't ever attend any conference. That's just life.

there are many alternatives to putty in win land from free to less free options. And WSL + ssh config would be my choice on the win side if at all possible

Seeing PuTTY used for only basic SSH connections makes you die even more inside. OpenSSH has been built into Windows for a long time now, and only the server is the part you have to manually enable.
