He actually found a local sponsor to help him with a lot of the gardening stuff, which is very exciting. I will be starting some seedlings for the kids so they can transplant them into what will soon be their outdoor raised bed, and I hope they enjoy this as much as they have enjoyed cooking!

Last year they cooked, among other things: banana pudding, donuts, fudge, apple dumplings, quesadillas, waffles, three types of cookies, pigs in a blanket, mashed potatoes, green beans, and all sorts of other fun dishes. (He says they all have a cookbook and they added 48 recipes!)

This is the first year for the garden and I have been swamped as heck, but next spring if I'm more on top of stuff, I may see if I can get a PO Box and ask if any of my MANY GARDENING PALS on bluesky would like to send a note and some seeds for the kids.

I used to be a very serious cook with seriously impressive talent. If I'd been able to develop those skills beyond basics & what I could teach myself under a skilled teacher (and disability hadn't gotten in the way), I could have been a star.

And if I hadn't been so traumatized as a child, or if there had been less medical neglect, my disabilities wouldn't be nearly as severe. I might even have avoided some of the food allergies I developed later on.
