yes 1st person POV is currently "in" with a lot of people but when I started writing, people got on the internet and claimed constantly that 1st person POV was for people too lazy to learn the craft of conveying deep POV in third. people have always had weird preferences & always will!

“I have had readers come up to me at book signings and say, to my face, ‘I won’t read this book of yours because it’s in third person.’ ” slate.trib.al/T4OhzHf

Back to this subject again, but Kushiel’s Legacy would’ve been a. Entirely different series of books had they been written in third person. It’s definitely a pet peeve of mine when people claim that 1st person is lazy or lacking in depth.

I mean, I hate *any* generalization that says that a trope or a POV or a tense or whatever is universally bad. that just... seems silly? and lazy? what a weird thing to think! (though I do think you can write 3rd just as close as 1st, there doesn't have to be any practical difference really)

Oh, I agree entirely. I also have no real preference other than that I like close. And I really do not care what anyone else prefers. I’m certainly not going to judge anyone for their preferences.
