I've seen this go by a few times on TikTok now and I have to say, I love this idea. We need a way to convince people to keep running even if they don't win, maybe building the loss into it as a troll move is the secret.

The only thing wrong with this is "it's better if you don't". Nah you have to be prepared to do the actual job if you win 😀

I mean I'm pretty sure it would be hard to find someone less prepared to do the job that Tommy Tuberville so honestly for a state house seat I'll roll the dice. 😂

Well, we have a seven person board of education filled with folks left of center... but a supermajority can't do the job and it's created an actual serious problem, so...

We're the conservatives doing it better??

We were a reasonably left board before, but we weren't getting the County seriously threatening to take us over. In a decently large place you gotta be able to find someone with ideological bona fides who can actually do the job.

Well, VORP matters a whole hell of a lot, yes!

I had to get on zoom with my 19 year old niece last year and explain why their first time voting involved almost no races they could pick a candidate in. It was honestly really demoralizing for them! Even if a D would have 100% definitely lost, they would have felt more engaged!

This is a very solid point. Plus running just an awareness campaign matters! And it's good for more people to find out what it is like to run.

So "what if they win" is actually literally not a thing. They're not going to. At all. In any world. Not this time. Probably not the next 5 times. But they'll make voting feel like it matters just by being there.
