I'm not just mad about this shit because I'm tired of seeing it (tho I am) It is scary to me that people legitimately don't seem to understand enough to know that 20% of the population of Texas voted for Trump. That is it. Out of every 5 people in Texas, 4 did not vote for this.

Honestly, it’d be way more productive and useful for people to donate to the grassroots efforts on the ground actually trying to fix things like gerrymandering than it is to gloat over the deaths of innocent people like the blithe, careless ghouls they claim to fight.

also they don't even know the fight going on at local levels. Mothers for liberty or whatever put up 3 candidates for our last school board election. There was a maga mayoral candidate just a couple months ago. Both were easily defeated. People just don't get what it's like on a state level.

Texas has historically had low voter turnout, even in the Jim Crow days. It appears to be a cultural issue for some in the state to let the bosses handle things. Add in actual racist vote suppression and you get the state legislature.

To be clear, I’m not saying the citizens of Texas should suffer because their government is horribly corrupt and racist. Every citizen and resident deserves safety

I have long suspected that many people on the left are just a couple of tequila shots from being fascists in the opposite direction. A very leftist relative of mine, for example, doesn’t see that “re-education camps” for MAGA are STILL A VERY BAD THING, ACTUALLY 🙄

And rather than look inward and realize “oh, maybe our voter outreach method of ‘vote for our team, idiots!’ is maybe not great!” they’d rather get on here and gloat about innocent people dying or losing their homes.

Even if you're not going to be a human being with compassion in your heart, how is it not embarrassing to be out here saying shit this fucking ignorant?? You sound as low-information as you accuse them of being.

I'm going to try to keep it moving on this topic going forward because I've got too much to do to bitch ONE MORE TIME about shitheads who should just go on my blocklist. But man. Even if you can't fix your heart, fix your fucking head.

last comment: this thread is not about whether people who DID explicitly vote for him deserve this--that is for your own moral framework to grapple with. My point is that we have so little civic literacy at this point, people have delegated their moral framework to the fucking electoral college.

The really frustrating thing is that it’s the same people who are (correctly!) outraged about the electoral college who then go on to make broad “red state/blue state” generalizations without realizing that those very terms are _artifacts_ of that same electoral college!

Electoral college is a huge reason voter turnout is so low in TX. If you’re a democrat, you’re mostly wasting your time: unless a whole bunch more people start voting your way, your vote basically doesn’t count. If you’re Republican, you also didn’t need to. Winner take all electoral votes screws us

Kinda wild that some of the same people who are loudest about gerrymandering will immediately blame voters in the most heavily gerrymandered areas instead of the system that allows their voices to be silenced.

No shit. Texas (and almost all states) have the stupid “winner take all” way of distributing electoral votes. Whoever gets the most votes in TX gets all electoral votes no matter how close it is.

Living here in Texas and seeing all of its problems as well as its good qualities, what we need here is HELP. Instead, we get written off as a lost-cause state full of Neanderthals by people miles away from the realities we have to suffer through. It's exhausting.

This escaped Texan hears you. Grew up in Austin. I use Rafael Cruz, a Cuban Canadian who somehow got elected Senator, as an example of how dysfunctional Tx districts are.
