I've reached a point where I think I'm going to follow @totallydonna.kitrocha.com's new rule and if I see someone discussing/admitting to using GenAI I am just going to block them. We need to get this train back on the tracks b/c there are so many useful things technology can be doing but NOT THIS.

And hey, I was intrigued by it in the early days. But once I understood the full extend of IP abuse involved, that was the end of it. Professional courtesy, man. I don't even care if I DID have a use for it--I won't do that to other artists.

It's crazy to me as a tech worker that AI is evangelized so heavily, but the use cases boil down to cutting corners. Outside of accessibility and research, I see it saving time but at the cost of quality. You have to either spend time fixing the quality issues OR accept mediocracy. I feel like I'm

really shooting myself in the foot professionally by not leaning in, but ethics aside I genuinely feel like it doesn't offer that much value. I feel like everyone is pretending it's the greatest thing ever to give the appearance of being forward thinking... But we're all just fooling ourselves?

Just today “Gemini” assembled a pile of word garbage and plastered it over more than half of the page that should have been showing me search results from the actual internet instead of its internally-constructed fever dreams. I tried to disable it, but I’d already disabled everything I could.

Even the “how do I remove Gemini results from searches” answers are polluted with AI-generated gobbledygook that has no relationship to actual things one can accomplish.
