I have a bunch of these saved on my phone because I found the ❌ version SO much more appealing than the ✅ version!? I assume they’re from the same artist.

It isn’t even good vs. bad, those are two different styles of drawing. I’m more attracted to the cartoony style of the drawing on the left, but the one on the right would work for a lot of types of illustration.

I looked at this guy's feed, and he's not a bad artist really. I think if anything he got to the point in his education where he learned to follow the rules, but not far enough that he learned to break them.

You’re right about the sawed-off quality of some contemporary illos, I always found the key to bluth character design to be shapework wholly in the service of showing characters grappling with -extreme emotions- many of which are quite uncomfortable and distressing. Just like childhood feelings!

He's making how to draw books and that's his whole portfolio somehow? Artist like that irritate me for some reason? He clearly worked for some other projects, there is finished stuff but he doesn't show it. It's just seeing books all the way down.

These are two different drawings and #1 would be completely hilarious in an animation. #2 is good, but it's more 1950s Warner Bros/Looney Tunes funny .

Why does everything need to 'right' or 'wrong' ? These just look like modern and 'classic' styles of cartoon. Simpsons / Family Guy on the left and Tex Avery / Looney Tunes on the right... Neither inherently right or wrong

I totally agree. That’s why the big red X over the left one rankled me. No matter what the ‘lesson’ they’re trying to teach, the binary GOOD/BAD classification is so weird.
