that's a really great question! I suppose the trickiest thing initially was getting things to fit in the ROM banks, as it was my first time programming for a mapper chip on the NES. i kept running out of space, or loading the wrong bank at the wrong time..!

i am writing a script for a video about how i built this though, along with some more detailed info about the various things i ran into!

It does appear to be! A few people in the comments on the itch page and YouTube have had success playing it on hardware by various means. As for actually producing a real-deal cartridge, I'd hope so but have no real idea if it's possible...

heard about the ROM, immediately stopped what I was doing, put it on the flashcart and played it straight to the end. Big congrats. one of the coolest projects i've seen in a long time!

This uses the MMC1 in an 8 PRG bank, 4 CHR bank configuration! I might be able to crunch it down a little smaller to use less banks someday though..!

Very cool! Unfortunately I got softlocked in an early, uh, "block moving puzzle" due to accidentally pushing the "block" into a corner, but that's my bad, I'll just restart and try over as I'm interested in seeing more of the twists ^^;

...I feel very silly now, having restarted before seeing this, gotten and then softlocking myself again later on >_< One of the followers fell on my blade but the other follower follows too close for me to stab no matter what angle I try from - retrying The changed dialogue so far is interesting!

Success, got there in the end! I danced the twisted dance of fate and faded into the howling void of numbers. Was a fun fight and meta commentary, and leaf.code's custom track was a great addition - both feel very true to their inspirations
