BREAKING: The Supreme Court, in a 5-4 decision, is allowing Trump’s White House ballroom construction to continue. The majority says the National Trust likely lacks standing to sue. Chief Justice John Roberts broke with the Court’s conservatives, joining all three Democratic appointees in dissent.

Roberts wrote that the ballroom’s construction is “likely unlawful.”

Likelihood of success on the merits is the applicable legal standard when considering stays. So “likely unlawful” is entirely appropriate here. Guys, stay focused — Roberts (for once) is not the problem here!

The very brave conservative justices bravely stand up for the plain meaning of the law in the face of Trump’s lawlessness in situations like this when it really matters to the nation, like when we need to not build a ballroom. Voting rights however can go fuck themselves

We live in a world where a Supreme Court Justice says something is "likely unlawful". Mr Chief Justice, either it is or it isn't. If you don't know, who does? "Beats me" isn't a dissent or a ruling... it's just a cowards way out.

gosh if only there was, like, a 'Court' that sorta ruled like one and for all - 'Supremely', you might say - that something was unlawful and therefore had to be undone (or its initiator had to go to prison) if only (sigh)

FCK ROBERTS. FCK HIM. MAY HE ROT IN HELL. MAY HE DIE A LONG, SLOW, EXTREMELY PAINFUL DEATH. HIS ACTIONS ARE CAUSING SO MANY HARM. FCK HIM

It's a gift, in a way. If Congress calls him on it, he's likely to lose; Roberts said as much. Done the right way, they can block the ballroom, the helipad, the arch... all of it. The obvious flaw is that responsible adults are needed to supervise this toddler. It won't happen until Jan 3rd.
