Thank you for posting this link! I don't know if I would have stumbled over this video otherwise as I don't usually watch videos about geolocation. But this was a fascinating and well told story that just exudes good vibes and I'm so glad I watched it 🥰

And, no, this isn't a huge deal, it didn't save any lives. But that's almost the point. A bunch of people worked together for years just to help clarify a moment in a meaningful photo. None of this really could have been done without social media/internet communications.

Damn, that was amazing. Years ago, ~2010, I used to search for window locations in Andrew Sullivan's View From Your Window contest, and eventually became the grand champion. Others after me proved to be even better at it. Watching the first half of the video brought back so many memories, 1/

following the wrong trail, matching patterns from different angles, looking for tiny details in skylines and landscapes, then triangulating to find the exact window where the photo was taken. It was amazingly time consuming, and even with a friend whose pattern matching skills were extraordinary, 2/

we failed as often as we succeeded, and just like here, we often found in the end that we had been so close at the start, and just missed one detail that would have solved it much earlier. Hats off to Trevor, that was a great video. Thanks for posting the link. 3/3
