I really, really don't want to do this, but let's do a bit (just a LITTLE BIT) of fact checking about what Zuck said on the Joe Rogan podcast, because this is something I not only followed closely, but also spent time *talking to the actual people at Meta who dealt with this* which WAS NOT ZUCK.

When we recall for just a brief moment how FB originated, rating the looks and sexual proclivities of women at Harvard by creepy boys who couldn’t get dates, — how could this dark turn be a surprise? FB is garbage resting on a fetid foundation of older garbage. Zuck is the head rat propping it up.

I'm sure he understands all of the above and is just falling in line to be able to continue unmolested by a Trump admin. All those Billions and yet still so easily gets pushed around. Although outside of the general public grumbling, what's the downside of him doing any of this?

I could only get 3 minutes into the interview. Absolute horseshit. It actually started with “Facebook was created to give our users ability to share their thoughts” (paraphrasing) when no, it wasn’t. It was started to vote on how hot Harvard co-eds were. Rogan referring to “Russia hoax” as fact. No

He is a part of the con…. Back in the day they always had a shill in the audience to convince people that what was being sold (currently lies and white nationalism) works/is good. He is the shill, Musk, Zuck and Rump are the con men selling the crap.

Great thread. As I suspected, Zuck is selling a false narrative - the MAGA / Jim Jordan / Matt Taibbi / Elon false narrative. It's pathetic and disappointing. The propagandists are winning by creating & selling this false narrative of "government censorship", which leads to a "let a rip" /1

kind of ethos on social media - exactly what the propagandists want. It's wide open for them to do their thing. I'd leave facebook if I had a good alternative and didn't have some kind of friend community built up. I left Threads a few months ago and will never go back.

Yep, so disappointing. These guys are veering right in a tech-bro kind of way, whether it's to appease Trump or to get in on the neo-fascist / oligarchy or because they've been brainwashed by the very propaganda that they could weed out on their platforms. I deleted my Threads and Instagram /1

accounts tonight. I don't really use them anymore anyway. Still using facebook - too many connections with friends on there. But otherwise BlueSky is my last refuge. Zuck will say I'm "virtue signaling" but I'm actually just "customer signaling" my disapproval of product choices, /2

It would be one thing if Zuck just seemed scared, but to be lying about everything smells like complicity. It's like the billionaires heard "fascism?" and said, "Yes, I understand the assignment!"

He went on the perfect place to cry about this, Rogan and his audience will believe anything. Why didn't zuck just refuse and say take me to court. It's not hard to see through this.

I personally think trump is threatening to shut him down or worse. We have high windows here too. if he didn't pay-up some money and agree to do his bidding. I'm noticing all these companies now kissing trumps buckle are also making big "Donations" to him. I think he's pulling a putin.

Of course he is! Putin is his idol. Trump’s dreams are filled with parades of Americans bowing at his feet, and marching along 5th avenue showing off his new nuclear weapons on truck beds surrounded by tanks…right out of WWII

This is is all OUR fault though. He created the algorithm so he could publicly humiliate his ex, he sh*t all over his BF for power and he stole the concept from clients that hired him! And we continue to jump on board like lemmings even AFTER we knew this. Make the correction and leave all META!

Dude write a book. Or get someone with money to produce a short film. We could run them as commercials during playoff games. The same goes for viral clips like Jasmine Crockett

The sad fact is that the American people are ignorant as shit and depend on social media for information, and the form opinions and make life decisions based on what they “learn” there. They fucking deserve the hurt that comes their way. Social media is the media version of ultra processed foods.

I deleted Facebook etc. the day zuck took the brakes off. Don jr and Charlie Kirk popped up on my feed 🤮. Many personal friends and family live far away and the platform was easy. I have emails & text numbers for most,so I can still reach out-albeit not as easily. I sleep well not supporting zuck.

Zuck and his pals exploit every social, economic and political situation to sell ads and stoke anger and unrest to pile up the money. Ultimately, the US public is killing themselves and their communities by not cutting the social media cord and actually learning something legitimate.

Nailed it. The problem is and always has been the electorate. The average American is poorly educated and simply can’t be bothered to independently go and find things out themselves. Social media is like cat nip to them.

Jefferson supposedly said democracy was doomed unless we had an educated populace. We have an ignorant and impulsive majority, and they are sitting ducks for the malevolent actors of the tech industry wedded to the political class. Every public issue will be weaponized until we fly apart.

What I’ve seen with these tech guys is the effects of an education missing humanities. Yes, the much maligned humanities really gives you a foundation in understanding the world, society, organizations, hierarchy, while at the same time elevating your critical thinking and analytical skills.

Peter Thiel was a PHILOSOPHY MAJOR. Multiple high level Nazis had humanities backgrounds. The idea that more humanities courses would somehow make people "good" is magical thinking. Anyway, tech people likely take more humanities courses than humanities people take tech courses.

And if anything, because tech is a more recent historical phenomenon, there is a pretty good chance that the people plundering Africa 100 years ago and justifying slavery 200 years ago mostly had humanities backgrounds. Did them a lot of good...

It has nothing to do with the first amendment anyway. Those rich dudes want the right to spread disinformation on X, Facebook... Just like the previous generation did with Fox News... You CAN'T get people to vote against their own interests if you don't lie to them. That's the conservative way.

Truth is the enemy of the right wing in politics. Trump started with the 'Fake News' mantra. The first job is to get the masses not believing MSM, then you get them trusting a news outlet that you control, it's as easy as that. The problem will come when Trump doesn't deliver on his promises.

Understanding the 1A is very simple, apparently not for some. 1A doesn't cover these private platforms. There is no such thing as free-speech! Your speech is limited by the TOS!

What are you talking about? There's lots of stuff you can't yell in a crowded theater. You can't yell "HIPAA" in a crowded theater, for example; that's a violation of Section 230. Everybody knows that. Over on Twitter they do, anyway.

One of his former lawyers is a city councilmember in Seattle. This lawyer (before he was elected) equated a small concrete barrier (to prevent illegal left turns) to Trump's border wall because it blocked turns into a bilingual preschool...that his kids attend(ed?). publicola.com/2023/11/17/c...

publicola.comCouncilmember-Elect Saka Compared 8-Inch Road Divider to Trump's Border Wall - PubliColaBy Erica C. Barnett City Councilmember-elect Rob Saka, a former Meta attorney who will represent West Seattle’s District 1 starting…

Yes, it's a great inconvenience in case of fire, not being able to shout "fire". What a maroon. What an Eskimo piehead. (In case it's ambiguous, I mean Zuck, not you, Kevin!).

The mistake you’re making here is assuming non-lawyer executives listen to and retain anything their attorneys tell them that doesn’t reinforce their existing ideas about how law should work.

I yelled at the screen when Gov. Walz said his "crowded theater" bit during the VP debate and I would have yelled at the screen again had I heard this podcast. And I am very much not prone to yelling, normally...

Then he talks about the administration pressuring them to take down people raising concerns about vaccine side effects. He then says that Meta refused to do this. Which... should be the end of the story. That's what came out in the Murthy case: while admin officials reached out, FB told them no.

It’s baffling to me that both he and Rogan felt like this would get much better when trump got into office. Have they not seen trump in office before?? Either they are naive, or they are only be willing to work with MAGA Republicans.

I can't believe you didn't stop to note that THIS IS SCREAMING FIRE IN A CROWDED THEATRE telling people to be fearful , leading to mayhem that gets people hurt, such as by undermining the belief in vaccines with full-on LIES

And... that's what matters. Because it only violates the law if the gov't engages in *coercive* pressure, which it didn't do here. The gov't tried to persuade the company, the company said no. That's... not unusual. Nor is it a violation of free speech.

But we're already seeing people ignore the "we told them no" part of this, and go into what a massive violation this is. Note that they're not saying anything about Trump admin goons like Brendan Carr now going around issuing *actual* threats, including to Meta about its fact checking program...

Pay attention to this. Zuck just let the cat out of the bag that the orange turd is going to declare a national emergency, and impose restrictions on our 1st amendment rights. Most likely declaring martial law.

The always propagated this internally even in 2015 already. The entire blah blah only had one purpose - avoid accountability. Every mechanism - fact checkers, oversight board are all accountability sinks where meta keeps the power and something else gets blamed

I live in Mississippi. I’ve seen the Trump flags replaced by the good ole rebel flags again fresh out of the packets. I seriously fear for my life & those who can’t easily “hide” their identities. I don’t want to anyway. Just putting this out there.

I have seen it repeatedly now in all different contexts. People who have access to the actual information repeat false information from social media instead. Spreading misinformation has become the norm.

I once, as a government official, threatened to rip out the lungs of another government official from a different branch of government who did something with which my colleagues and I had a sharp disagreement. Not proud, but these things happen. Those folks at Facebook are tender plants.

I kind of expect government officials to have some swearing now and then. Like in retaliation to BRICS cyber attacks. The military, business administration and the state department probably should have different angles on appropriate responses. And all should include Fuck Russia.
