We live in a world where budgets are tighter than ever. Where do we focus our limited resources to save lives? We need spatial data to make maps that will inform our priorities. It's embarrassing that it's taken the state so long. @pvdstreets.org is doing such important work.

It's more work. It requires coordination. It shows off exactly how dangerous communities are and may point out the need for even more work. Cops hate being told how to do their jobs (but also they are consistently very bad at their jobs).

Of course, the most frustrating part of having been a geospatial analyst at a transportation consulting firm is being cursed with the knowledge that no one makes decisions based on sound data.

I worked in a Highway safety office. Some of the requests from the state legislature were so crazy, especially considering the detailed annual reports we produced. Don’t get me started on this subject. 😉
