I believe @keithamus.social recently landed the spec change for dialogs to get a toggle event, matching popovers and details elements. That event would be fired when the command button is activated.

Yep - we have `beforetoggle` and `toggle` events instead. Shipped in Chrome and Firefox. TBD Safari

Might be worth updating MDN compat data to have the dialog support for these events as a sub-feature?
