What's the source for this? I love the viz (even if the content is sad)

I’m not sure I understand this visualization. Does it indicate, for example, that there were no days colder than average in 2023? And that the 1940s were much much cooler than today?

Here’s the key. TLDR vertical peaks indicate a larger number of days at that temperature, horizontal axis going right means hotter temps. 2023 both had more above average days and the hottest days than previous years 😬 www.bbc.com/news/science...
