Had an elderly Millenial moment of wistfulness at the forlorn Post Office counter at the back of our grungy ex-WHSmith this morning. I remember when both were beacons on the high street, bustling, exciting places to go. I know rationally how it’s the result of our choices etc etc, but still 😢

Living near Guildford meant I was part-prepared for this decline… the North Street Post Office was as close to the opposite of a 'beacon' as it's possible to be, as far back as the late 80s/early 90s… WHSmith by comparison was a lunchtime destination of choice (once I'd got my M&S sandwich)…
