In the US today, we are experiencing many forms for what scholar Victor Picard calls “media capture,” from legal and financial to technological. (lpeproject.org/blog/the-ame...).

We see a collapse of local independent journalism, fueled by corporate consolidation, algorithmic exclusion, and shrinking investments in value-driven reporting. The workers and activists in big tech and the way communities are informed (or disinformed or misinformed) are intimately connected.

There are bright spots, however. Some local news organizations have cut through the algorithms to reach their communities, to build trust and direct relationships. This is a panel of news leaders at the front of conversations about how local news can be reimagined.

These newsroom executives will talk about what keeps them going in the most challenging conditions, what keeps them up at night, and how they are planning for a future with AI and the capital investments flowing into tech companies today
