Good morning #Septopolis. If you're using this to build something and haven't picked one yet, take today and ponder it (I did this last year in fact!). Then, tell us about how it got this name. It could be serious and directly from in-world or it could be a silly in-joke amongst your friends.

This would be a simple answer for the month if I was only doing GC as a whole, but I think I want to also ponder why the focus districts are what they are. But first: GC. Galas Castoll was kind of a vibes-pondered name back in 2021-ish(?) meant to loosely mean “Great Castle.”

This was likely not the original name of the first settlements that became it, but one that was born out of it gradually consuming neighboring smaller settlements into a larger, reinforced amalgamation. Because yeah, it kind of became something frighteningly great.

Ashbury Heights: this is the name of one of my favorite music groups and I wanted to make a nod to them because it’s also got that perfect kind of neighborhood/subdivision kind of name. In universe, it’s probably named after Some Guy/Gal/Pal with the surname Ashbury.

Miralleda: in old notes, this section has been referred to as the Mirror District. It has a purpose in MaMo’s time and I wanted to make a nod to PPG Place back where I grew up. But now I’ve given it a newer name thanks to the aforementioned Coreloceans. It’s still mirrors. A lot of them.

Galas Agrati: like GC itself, GA is another vibes-y kind of name that I wanted to reflect its importance. The port is what MADE GC a megaNYC on steroids and loosely means “Great Port Marketplace.” Colloquially, it gets called “the Agra.”

🙂‍↕️ Your jumpscare has reminded me that it would be a sin if I did not include a building of this style in Yinzburgh somewhere. Perhaps either an HQ of a GC-based company *or* the original inspo for the freak (positive) that decided to overhaul Miralleda.

Thank you! "The Agra" actually came first as far as naming. It's mentioned in a discussion as a point of reference and it flowed nicely in the moment. Just didn't sound powerful enough as a government name.

You have made me look up why place names ended up getting "Heights" in them. 😂 So yes! It will be on a higher elevation than its neighboring areas, but it's also because there will be a lot of verticality with the buildings. Lots of people to get packed into apartments!

The consensus I've found is that when big cities were forming, all the gross stuff from factories and horses were making lower areas not great to live in, so the rich people would build houses on hills and such to have cleaner air. Also up = good.
