Long gone is the cliché of the optimistic tech guy in flip-flops and a ratty old hoodie. The tech industry is now seen as the locus of unchecked power, making the men who work in it a whole lot harder to fancy.

I suppose a job is a job, but it sucks that working in tech almost guarantees that you’re involved in some kind of shady business. Tech used to be for the benefit of mankind. Now, it’s for the benefit of CEOs at the expense of mankind.

true, though still, some companies are decidedly worse than others. Working for Alex Karp or Elon Musk is simply not something ethical people do, however much they delude and distract themselves.

I agree 100% with the lady in the article saying medical debt is not an excuse to work for Palantir. It just becomes this situation where no matter the aspirations you had for getting into tech, the people in control have ruined it.

yeah it sucks. tech used to be an interesting field full of tinkerers and creative mad scientist engineers, but once the money guys and arms dealers took over silicon valley it just steadily devolved

One thing I disagree with. If I needed the money for family, I'm taking the money. The self-righteous attitude of some drone in a bar not required.

well even then, if you're a competent engineer or programmer, you probably have latitude to shop for employment with some sense of ethics it is an arms dealer run by a fascist sociopath, so "baby needed formula" only goes so far
