There you go. An overt technofascist Trump ally will now own CBS, CNN, HBO, Paramount, Warner Brothers, Discovery, and a big chunk of TikTok

As the media coverage of this expands, note how many can bother to mention that this was made possible by trump administration corruption, including a fake Trump DOJ antitrust investigation into the merger's competitive impacts that will now magically evaporate

the one positive, if there is one, is that nobody at Larry Ellison's weird coalition of nepobabies and brunchlords appears to have any idea what they're doing. And the gargantuan debt load from this deal will be very challenging to navigate.

which means this could end up like the last two-decades' worth of Warner Brothers related mergers stemming from AOL to AT&T. Just a big pile of overvalued enshittification. Things could get worse with a massive wave of consumer defections (😉), and if an AI bubble pop straining Larry's assets.

It'll be impossible to navigate. Paramount will have to renegotiate the NFL deal, Ellison's kid is hoarding cable channels in an era where cable TV is dying. Even with a bunch of hit movies WBD is losing money.

I am absolutely convinced we need a new age of anti trust monopoly enforcement where we force all of these gargantuan media and tech conglomerates to break up into small chunks. This much power is too concentrated for any one company and doesn’t allow competition to thrive

It’s a good thing they are so incompetent. Incompetence is underrated. At one time I thought it was impossible to make a dent in the cult of the Washington Redskins, and Dan Snyder proved me wrong

If the democrats can overcome this all in 2026 and 2028, they need to institute legislation to break up these media companies in tiny fragments AND use their power to ensure they don't get bought by fascists.

For example there used to be a limit on the # of TV stations a company could own - 3! then 5 - then 7... now you can reach 39% of the country before you get in any trouble... Re: news orgs I think we need an ecosystem of non-profits like AP/proPublica etc. We need to protect the foundations though!

Alternative view: Ellison got played by Netflix. They inflated the shares and made Ellison eat it, and got 2.8 billion and Ellison got useless IP and he is so toxic it will fail and Netflix will swoop in in a few years and pick up the pieces. This is exactly what Netflix wanted.

If Lucy was still with us, she'd probably rescind the sale of her beloved company, so at least they wouldn't have 𝙖𝙡𝙡 the marbles...

There is a possible future here where in a few years Netflix realizes it dodged a huuuge bullet. HBOMax has a couple decent shows but definitely has declined a bit, CNN sucks, CBS sucks. I think the whole thing is a money pit. I get it’s for media control but what if nobody’s watching?

And each and every entity you've listed plus any and all associated entities are now dead to me... Anything promulgated by any of those entities is suspect at best. 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤡🤡🫏🫏🖕💩💩

I mean, the fact is they're all owned by nutters high off their own supply. They just give off the appearance of threatening intimidation, but they're a house of cards in the background.

I'm not bothered by the fact that he's a Trump ally, but I am bothered by the fact of what I fear is going to happen when Paramount's buying of Warner Bros. goes into full effect, that being more cancellations of shows and movies and more layoffs just for the sake of greed.

I'd be very pissed if the Lars Of The Stars spinoff gets cancelled before release, along with Coyote Vs. ACME and future Sonic movies, as I really love the Sonic movies. I would also be very pissed if Paramount+ removes all Warner Bros. classics from Tubi.

The Americans that believe in the Constitution and our Freedoms need to ween themselves off of these corrupt racist media and find neutral alternatives. Fight the oligarch takeover!

The Epstein Files and Epstein Class have been more everywhere from Trump's SOTU to HRC's and Les Wexner's deposition. If you think you've got a beat on what's what, you don't know the half of it and it's even worse than you know. It's still just the tip of the iceberg. youtu.be/DkvX-hlY80s

they need to find messaging that can exploit social media virality, and help fund platforms resilient to billionaire meddling

We haven't had serious antitrust enforcement in decades. Corporate power and corruption has completely rotted corporate accountability and regulatory autonomy, though people here somehow pretend that's not true

This is the end result I expected, but didn’t hope for. I always knew that the Ellisons relationship with Trump would prevail. Despite what some of the smartest people in the room kept telling us, the fix was in! Netflix never really stood a chance.

I’m really going to miss John Oliver. Looking forward to all the samizdat publishers and comedians we are going to get though. Passing content around on thumb drives that self-destruct.

Once upon a time, America passed the Sherman Antitrust Act. Around 15 years later, Congress passed the Clayton Antitrust Act and the FTC Act. But it seems that as time went on, these acts were kinda sorta ignored. Soon we will have The government (public) and Amazon (private sector).

Luckily none of Trump's dwindling cult watch any of that stuff anyway. This will simply accelerate the demise of these old media dinosaurs, destroying their last claims to legitimacy or accuracy. American money will flow around them like water flows around rocks.

I fucking hate when a headline starts off WITH A STUNNING TWIST, bullshit, the very day Trump said Paramount would be better, the results were obvious. Trumps FCC was not going to approve the Netflix deal. Democrats quit pretending that the America we once knew still exists.

I know the FCC had no role, Trump approved it for the Ellisons. The FCC is just to make it legal. Brendan Carr FCC Chair has already said the deal is cleaner with the focus on the transfer of broadcasting licenses.

The FCC was and is not involved at all dipshit. Carr spouts opinions all the time about things the FCC isn’t even involved with. What broadcast licenses? There aren’t any involved here. And there certainly were none either Netflix.

So I guess the DC Universe that was just starting to get fixed under James Gunn is gonna go to shit now. Have a feeling if this merger happens Gunn will walk away too.
